The Data Migration Specialist will play a critical role in a 5-month contract to lead and manage the data migration activities ahead of the organization’s go-live on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This position involves extracting, cleansing, mapping, validating, and loading data from legacy systems into Business Central. The specialist will collaborate closely with the implementation partner, finance and operations teams, and the internal project group to ensure that all data is accurate, complete, and ready for the go-live phase.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end data migration workstream for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central implementation.
- Extract data from legacy systems and perform thorough cleansing and validation to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Map data correctly to Business Central data structures, including ledger, customers, vendors, items, inventory, and sales/purchase documents.
- Load validated data into Business Central using appropriate migration tools and techniques.
- Work closely with the implementation partner and internal stakeholders to align migration activities with overall project timelines and requirements.
- Conduct data profiling and reconciliation to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Participate in structured project methodologies, including test cycles and formal sign-off processes.
- Communicate effectively with finance and operations teams, translating technical details into clear, understandable language for non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience migrating data into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV during a previous implementation project.
- Strong understanding of Business Central data structures such as ledger, customers, vendors, items, inventory, and sales/purchase documents.
- Practical experience using migration tools like RapidStart Services, Configuration Packages, or equivalent ETL tools.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query, complex formulas, and lookups, to support data profiling, cleansing, and mapping activities.
- Excellent data analysis and reconciliation skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience working within a structured implementation or project management methodology, including managing test cycles and formal approval gates.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with finance and operations stakeholders who may not have a technical background.
