ACE Money Transfer is seeking a motivated Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure the reliability, speed, and security of our database environments, primarily focusing on MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL). This role is critical in maintaining data availability, accuracy, and efficiency across development, test (staging), and production systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with development, DevOps, operations, and infrastructure teams to manage database provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, and incident response. Reporting to the Senior DBA/Database Lead, this position offers an excellent opportunity to develop hands-on expertise in database administration and cloud-managed services such as AWS RDS within a fast-growing, regulated fintech environment where data integrity and uptime are paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration & Support: Install, configure, and administer MySQL and MSSQL instances, including self-managed and managed services like AWS RDS. Perform routine tasks such as user and privilege management, schema changes, backups, and recovery procedures.
- Environment Management: Set up and maintain database environments across development, staging, and production. Ensure configuration consistency, version control of database changes, and reliable migration of schema and data between environments.
- Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Monitor database health, performance metrics, and resource usage. Identify slow queries, review execution plans, and apply tuning recommendations under senior DBA guidance. Utilize centralized monitoring and logging tools such as PMM, Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch to track database status and respond to alerts.
- Backup, Recovery & High Availability: Participate in backup scheduling, validation, and restore testing. Support replication, failover, and basic high-availability configurations to maintain service continuity.
- Database Security & Compliance: Implement database security best practices including access control, encryption, auditing, and compliance with company policies. Assist with patching and version upgrades alongside security and infrastructure teams.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, Bash, or SQL to streamline backups, monitoring, reporting, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Cloud & Managed Database Services: Support managed database services such as AWS RDS for MySQL, including provisioning, monitoring, scaling, and ongoing maintenance. Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams on networking, security groups, and connectivity.
- Incident Response & Collaboration: Conduct initial triage of database incidents like connectivity issues, performance degradation, replication lag, and failed jobs or backups. Work closely with Software Development, DevOps, and Operations teams to troubleshoot and maintain smooth database operations throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Documentation & Continuous Learning: Maintain accurate documentation of database configurations, runbooks, and procedures. Continuously build expertise in MySQL, MSSQL, database administration best practices, and emerging database technologies.
