Teknosys is seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and protect critical database platforms that support Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. In this role, you will ensure the stability, security, and high availability of databases powering enterprise and government applications. You will work closely with infrastructure, DevOps, and development teams to design resilient architectures, optimize performance, and implement disaster recovery strategies. Your efforts will be vital in maintaining scalable and reliable database environments that underpin the country’s digital future.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle, as well as NoSQL databases including MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis.
- Manage high availability and failover through replication, clustering, and switchover procedures to minimize downtime.
- Develop and execute backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and conduct regular DR drills to ensure readiness.
- Optimize database performance by tuning queries, indexing, partitioning, and planning capacity to handle growing workloads.
- Monitor database health proactively using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or Nagios, respond to incidents promptly, and perform root cause analysis.
- Implement security measures including encryption, access control, and compliance with industry standards to safeguard data.
- Collaborate with development teams on schema design, query optimization, and release planning to support application requirements.
- Automate routine DBA tasks and infrastructure provisioning using scripting languages and automation tools such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, backup processes, and recovery playbooks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 2 to 4 years of practical experience in database administration with a focus on high availability and disaster recovery setups.
- Proficiency in managing MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle databases, along with exposure to NoSQL platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise in replication, clustering, failover management, and disaster recovery planning using tools like pgBackRest or Percona XtraBackup.
- Experience automating DBA workflows and infrastructure tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting systems such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or Nagios.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, disciplined documentation practices, and effective communication abilities.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to ensure continuous database availability.
