The Planning & Controls Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations by managing the planning, scheduling, and preparation of maintenance work packages. This position coordinates preventive, corrective, and turnaround maintenance activities while overseeing SAP work orders and monitoring material availability. The engineer collaborates closely with Operations, Reliability, Integrity, Procurement, and Maintenance teams to optimize asset performance and minimize downtime. Additionally, the role involves managing indirect procurement, service contracts, and scrap revenue streams to ensure cost efficiency, compliance, and uninterrupted operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with site safety audits and promote safe work practices, including coordination with contractors for safety management and follow-up on accident reports.
- Oversee plant operations by stewarding preventive maintenance (PM) plans, updating them based on equipment condition, and developing departmental KPIs to measure performance.
- Identify and implement improvements in existing systems and processes, and actively participate in plant reviews to translate issues and ideas into actionable plans.
- Manage turnaround and shutdown planning by maintaining job lists requiring plant outages, developing shutdown strategies, coordinating resources, and monitoring execution progress through detailed reports.
- Administer site contracts by developing and implementing contract management procedures, overseeing the entire contract lifecycle, pre-qualifying contractors, monitoring contractor performance, and ensuring labor law compliance.
- Arrange logistics and administrative support for additional manpower during shutdowns, including transport, lodging, and food services.
- Lead people development initiatives by facilitating training and skill enhancement for team members.
- Monitor and control budgets related to turnarounds and departmental fixed costs, ensuring adherence to approved financial targets.
- Make autonomous decisions regarding task assignments, administrative matters, and contract coordination, while escalating high-value purchase orders and contract approvals as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4 to 7 years of relevant professional experience in plant maintenance planning, turnaround management, and contract administration.
- Strong technical knowledge of turnaround planning, job scheduling, contractor and contract management.
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams, resolve conflicts, and work effectively under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Advanced competencies in putting people first, collaborating openly, acting with ownership, and encouraging innovation.
