DevOps Engineer

A UK-based client located in Islamabad is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to take full ownership of their servers, deployments, and infrastructure as the company transitions from internal tools to a robust SaaS product. Currently, developers handle server management alongside their coding tasks, but the successful candidate will assume this responsibility, creating and maintaining separate test and production environments. The role focuses on preparing the infrastructure to meet customer expectations for speed, security, and high availability.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and maintain distinct test and production environments to ensure smooth operations.
- Build and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate releases, minimizing manual errors.
- Manage Linux servers, cloud infrastructure, and containerized applications effectively.
- Secure servers by managing access controls, permissions, and applying timely updates and patches.
- Establish regular backup routines and ensure rapid data restoration when necessary.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to proactively detect and resolve issues.
- Plan and enhance infrastructure scalability to support the growth of the SaaS product.
- Maintain tools and environments used by developers to facilitate efficient workflows.
- Support reliable, repeatable, and secure deployment processes.
- Document infrastructure, operational procedures, deployment methods, and recovery plans.
- Work independently while clearly communicating technical issues to both technical and non-technical team members.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in DevOps or system administration.
- Proven expertise managing Linux servers across development, test, or production environments.
- Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
- Skilled in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
- Strong knowledge of server security, access control, permissions, and patch management.
- Experience designing and implementing backup strategies, data recovery, and operational resilience.
- Proficient in monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.
- Competent in scripting languages such as Bash or Python.
- Ability to support developers by providing reliable tools, environments, and deployment workflows.
- Capable of working independently and communicating complex technical issues clearly to diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Experience supporting a SaaS product with live customers.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with database administration and backup for PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar systems.
- AWS or Azure certifications are a plus.

The role will begin with a comprehensive review of the existing infrastructure, gaining an understanding of current development and deployment processes, identifying risks and gaps, and producing a strategic plan to improve the reliability, security, and scalability of the environments. The ultimate goal is to establish a dependable infrastructure foundation that enables safe releases, rapid incident recovery, and scalable growth of the SaaS product without unnecessary operational overhead.
