Director, Cloud Operations (AWS)

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and oversee large segments of Vertafore’s hybrid cloud infrastructure, including AWS platforms and colocation datacenter environments covering compute, storage, and networking.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, and operational resilience of core infrastructure services such as networking, storage, DNS, identity, and virtualization platforms.
- Drive modernization initiatives to support cloud adoption and hybrid architecture strategies.
- Manage AWS organizational structure, enforce account governance, and uphold infrastructure policy compliance.
- Collaborate with FinOps and other teams to enhance cost visibility, optimize spending, and maintain financial governance.
- Maintain compliance with security and operational standards across all infrastructure platforms.
- Champion Infrastructure-as-Code and automation using tools like Terraform and CloudFormation to improve provisioning, lifecycle management, and operational tooling.
- Promote engineering best practices focused on infrastructure development, automation, and platform reliability.
- Partner with security teams to enforce IAM standards, privileged access controls, patching, vulnerability management, and infrastructure hardening.
- Work closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Product Engineering leadership to align infrastructure capabilities with reliability goals and product growth.
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee hiring, performance management, and career development within the cloud operations team.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 18 years of experience in infrastructure, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.
- At least 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles managing infrastructure teams.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services, VMware, and hybrid cloud architectures.
- Strong expertise in networking, virtualization, storage, and distributed systems.
- Proven track record in implementing infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to operate infrastructure platforms supporting large-scale SaaS environments.
- Proficient in leveraging AI tools to enhance team productivity and advocate their adoption.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience managing hybrid cloud platforms spanning AWS and colocation datacenters.
- Background in supporting regulated industries.
- Knowledge of cloud governance frameworks and FinOps practices.
