The University Main Office (UMO) is seeking a qualified and experienced English teacher for the NUST Creative Learning School & College. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching the Cambridge O-Level or IGCSE curriculum, with a focus on developing students' skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking. This role requires delivering engaging lessons aligned with Cambridge standards, preparing students thoroughly for examinations, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Candidates should be between 25 and 45 years of age and demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and student development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Cambridge IGCSE English lessons in line with the Cambridge curriculum and syllabus requirements.
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching materials, assignments, and assessments.
- Develop students’ comprehension, directed writing, composition, and literature analysis skills.
- Conduct regular assessments, mock exams, and provide targeted feedback to enhance student performance.
- Monitor and record students’ academic progress accurately.
- Offer constructive feedback and support to students needing additional assistance.
- Utilize diverse teaching strategies, activities, and digital resources to enrich learning experiences.
- Maintain classroom discipline while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and stimulating environment.
- Participate actively in parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, academic activities, and school events.
- Collaborate with colleagues and academic management on curriculum delivery and student progress.
- Stay updated with changes in the Cambridge syllabus, assessment criteria, and examination requirements.
- Perform any other academic duties assigned by the school administration.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, English Language, or TEFL/TESOL certification.
- Essential experience includes 3 to 5 years of teaching the Cambridge O-Level or IGCSE curriculum.
- In-depth knowledge of Cambridge assessment objectives, command words, and past-paper marking standards.
- Ability to deliver engaging lessons covering comprehension, directed writing, composition, and literature analysis.
- Experience conducting assessments and providing feedback to improve student outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in English Literature, English Language, or TEFL/TESOL certification.
- 6 to 7 years of experience teaching the Cambridge O-Level or IGCSE curriculum.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English combined with strong interpersonal skills.
Candidates must attach scanned copies of academic and professional documents. The last education certificate or degree must be attested or verified by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Applicants with a third division in their academic career or a weak academic profile may be deemed ineligible. Current NUST employees with less than one year of service or without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Head of Institution are also ineligible. Those pursuing a required degree or medically unfit will not be considered.
