This role involves overseeing patient flow and ensuring a smooth and efficient experience within the Emergency Department (ED). The incumbent will start each shift by conducting rounds in triage, waiting, clinical, and non-clinical areas to monitor patient and attendant needs, especially during busy periods. They will act as a point of contact for anxious patients and attendants, explaining wait times and the ED process, while addressing any flow issues that arise. The position requires close coordination with medical staff, security, and administrative teams to maintain order, resolve complaints, and uphold high standards of patient care and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct daily rounds in triage, waiting, clinical, and non-clinical areas to monitor patient flow and comfort.
- Manage patient and attendant interactions, particularly during peak hours, providing clear explanations about wait times and ED procedures.
- Identify and resolve issues related to patient flow, including delays in lab work, consultations, admissions, and referrals.
- Regularly visit patients to ensure their comfort and satisfaction, following up promptly on any complaints.
- Collaborate closely with physicians to update and expedite patient care plans.
- Work in coordination with the security supervisor to enforce strict visitor and attendant controls.
- Liaise with faculty, doctors, and senior staff to review ED operations during busy periods and initiate improvements.
- Facilitate communication between various departments and personnel to address complaints and enhance ED performance.
- Maintain the ED environment according to established standards at all times.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with all hospital departments and support services.
- Support the In-charge Nurse to ensure patient satisfaction and uphold service standards.
- Assist senior staff in managing difficult situations, including interactions with challenging individuals.
- Coordinate with the administrative office and serve as a liaison with triage staff.
- Ensure proper registration processes for direct-entry emergency patients.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Head of Department (HOD) to provide updates and feedback from rounds.
- Demonstrate professionalism and composure during crisis or emergency situations.
- Maintain exemplary attendance and availability as per departmental requirements.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with relevant personnel.
- Adhere to behavioral standards, fostering positive relationships with patients, attendants, colleagues, and oneself.
- Keep accurate and organized paper records, ensuring proper filing.
- Respect the privacy, dignity, needs, and beliefs of patients, attendants, and colleagues.
- Exhibit a welcoming and respectful demeanor toward all individuals.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the concerned Head.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience in patient flow management or a related healthcare coordination role, preferably within an emergency or high-pressure clinical setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage patient and staff interactions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical, security, and administrative personnel.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills to address delays and complaints efficiently.
- Capacity to maintain professionalism and composure during emergencies or crisis situations.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in record-keeping and documentation.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality, privacy, and dignity at all times.
