Expressive Speech Annotator (English)

Synapsify, a leading AI research and product company specializing in speech and voice AI technologies, is seeking an Expressive Speech Annotator (English) for a contract-based, remote role. This project-based position involves preparing high-quality labeled data to support emotionally expressive voice and speech AI models. The primary tasks include listening to audio recordings, transcribing and tagging speech, and interpreting scripts and dialogues for tone, emotion, and intent. You will collaborate closely with project managers, AI engineers, and language experts to ensure annotation accuracy and consistency, while contributing to the improvement of tools and processes over time. Compensation is hourly and paid only for hours worked, with work assigned based on project availability, offering flexibility ideal for those balancing other commitments.

Key Responsibilities
- Listen to audio recordings, transcribe spoken content, and tag speech segments following defined guidelines and taxonomies.
- Review and correct automated speech recognition (ASR) transcriptions to ensure accuracy.
- Annotate scripts, dialogues, and literary excerpts for tone, style, emotion, genre, and intent.
- Maintain consistency and contextual accuracy across large datasets.
- Participate in evaluation surveys to assess the quality of AI-generated voices.
- Assist in refining expressive text used for training text-to-speech (TTS) models.
- Provide structured feedback reports on annotation quality, guidelines, and tools.
- Engage in review cycles with voice and language experts, meeting productivity and quality targets.

Required Qualifications
Candidates may qualify through one of two paths:

- Experienced Annotators: Demonstrated hands-on experience in speech or voice AI annotation, including audio transcription, speech segmentation, emotion or intent labeling, or ASR/TTS data work. No specific degree is required.
- English Literature & Linguistics Graduates: A completed Bachelor’s degree in English Literature or Linguistics, with no prior annotation experience necessary. Training on tools and guidelines will be provided.

All candidates should possess:
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Strong listening and comprehension skills with a keen ear for audio details.
- Ability to closely read text and identify emotion, subtext, and intent.
- High attention to detail and consistency when handling large volumes of work.
- Comfort using web-based tools and the ability to quickly learn new platforms.
- Self-management skills suitable for a remote, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Interest in film, drama, and character performance is a plus.
- Experience in quality assurance (QA) or content moderation is advantageous.
