We are seeking a skilled Fabric Inspector specialized in knitted fabrics to ensure all incoming and in-process materials meet stringent quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements before cutting and further production. The ideal candidate will be responsible for thorough inspection of fabric rolls, identifying defects, verifying shade and lot consistency, coordinating with various departments, and maintaining accurate documentation to support quality assurance processes.

Key Responsibilities

Fabric Inspection: Conduct detailed inspections of knitted fabric rolls to detect defects, quality issues, and irregularities in construction. Perform either 100% or sampling-based inspections in line with company quality procedures. Identify and classify defects such as holes, stains, slubs, yarn faults, barre, knitting faults, needle lines, GSM variation, shade variation, and other abnormalities. Verify fabric width, GSM, shrinkage, and other required specifications.

Shade and Lot Verification: Confirm fabric shade matches approved standards, lab dips, shade bands, and samples. Ensure proper segregation of fabric by lot and roll-wise shade. Detect shade variations both within single rolls and across multiple rolls.

Fabric Testing and Measurements: Measure GSM, width, shrinkage, spirality/skewness, and other relevant fabric parameters. Collaborate with the laboratory for necessary fabric testing and verify test reports against approved specifications.

Inspection Reports: Prepare precise roll-wise inspection reports and maintain comprehensive quality records. Document defects, measurements, inspection outcomes, and fabric acceptance or rejection status. Ensure traceability of fabric lots and rolls through proper documentation.

Defect Identification and Control: Classify defects as major, minor, or critical based on established quality standards. Mark defective areas on fabric rolls when necessary. Segregate and label rejected or doubtful fabric appropriately.

Coordination: Liaise with Fabric Store, Cutting, Production, Merchandising, and Quality teams to address fabric quality issues. Promptly report major quality problems to supervisors or managers. Follow up on fabric claims, replacement rolls, and corrective actions with suppliers as needed.

Quality Standards: Ensure all inspections adhere to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and approved inspection standards. Consistently apply the agreed fabric grading and inspection system. Authorize only approved fabric for cutting and production.

Additional Responsibilities: Assist in root-cause analysis of recurring fabric defects. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards within the inspection area. Ensure proper use and maintenance of inspection machines and measuring instruments. Perform other quality-related tasks as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Textile, Garments, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in knitted fabric inspection, ideally within a garment manufacturing or export environment. A strong understanding of knitted fabric construction and common knitting defects is essential. Practical knowledge of GSM, width, shrinkage, shade, and other fabric quality parameters is required. Familiarity with fabric inspection machines and quality inspection procedures is important. The role demands good reporting and documentation skills, the ability to accurately identify fabric defects, and sound decision-making regarding fabric quality. Excellent communication and coordination skills are also necessary.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance will be measured by the accuracy of fabric inspections, defect identification and classification, compliance with approved quality standards, timely and accurate completion of inspection reports, reduction in fabric-related production and cutting issues, and proper segregation and traceability of rejected or approved fabric.

Compensation and Work Location

The position offers a monthly salary range of Rs40,000 to Rs55,000. This is an in-person role requiring attendance at the designated work location.

This role is critical to maintaining high-quality standards in fabric handling and production, ensuring that only defect-free materials proceed to the next stages of garment manufacturing.
