Financial Controller, Trilogy (Remote)

This role offers a unique opportunity for a finance manager who wants to maintain strong technical expertise while leading global finance operations. Unlike typical management positions that focus heavily on meetings and administrative tasks, you will oversee a team of Senior Accountants and remain closely involved in the detailed financial work. You will review invoices, payments, reconciliations, and allocations to ensure accuracy, diagnose the root causes of errors, and create clear, evidence-based coaching to prevent recurring mistakes. When necessary, you will also be hands-on in resolving complex finance issues. The Central Finance team at Trilogy emphasizes automation and AI to reduce manual work, allowing you to focus on judgment, quality, and continuous improvement while managing complex global finance processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day finance operations through Senior Accountants, prioritizing tasks based on deadlines, business impact, dependencies, and financial risk.
- Review finance dashboards and completed work to verify the accuracy of bills, invoices, payments, bank transactions, reconciliations, control accounts, revenue, and spend allocations.
- Identify and diagnose quality issues using your accounting expertise, determining whether errors stem from data inaccuracies, system configurations, accounting treatments, or process failures.
- Develop written, evidence-based coaching materials that explain errors, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
- Explore and implement opportunities to leverage AI, large language models (LLMs), and automation to streamline finance operations, improving speed and accuracy.
- Build and lead a high-performing finance operations team that consistently delivers accurate, timely financial outputs while driving continuous quality improvements and reducing manual effort.

Required Qualifications
- A degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A recognized professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
- Experience participating in at least five audits involving a Big 4 accounting firm, either as an auditor or client.
- Accounting or finance experience within an organization generating at least $100 million USD in revenue.
- Proven people-management experience with direct responsibility for finance or accounting professionals.
- Hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable/customer invoicing, bank and control-account reconciliations, and revenue and spend allocation.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and allocate operational finance work across a team while managing deadlines and resolving blockers.
- Experience embedding AI or LLM tools into recurring, high-volume finance transaction workflows, with measurable impact on efficiency or accuracy beyond ad hoc use.
- Availability to work during US business hours.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience designing or building finance workflow automations using platforms such as n8n, Lovable, Claude Code, or similar tools.

- This is a full-time, long-term position requiring an independent contractor agreement. Compensation is $50 USD per hour, equating to approximately $100,000 USD annually based on a 40-hour workweek and 50 working weeks per year, with weekly payments.
