The Ijaz Group specializes in providing managed accounting, compliance, and fractional CFO services to nonprofit organizations across the United States. Our team partners closely with clients to enhance their financial operations, ensure compliance, and deliver reliable financial information that supports effective decision-making. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Form 990 Specialist to oversee the preparation and filing of annual information returns for our nonprofit clients.

Key Responsibilities
Form 990 Preparation and Filing: Prepare Forms 990 and 990-EZ, including all relevant schedules and disclosures. Review prior-year returns, financial statements, trial balances, governance details, and client documentation. Reconcile reported revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and net assets with client accounting records. Identify missing or inconsistent information, unusual balances, and potential compliance issues. Draft clear information requests and follow up with clients and internal teams as needed. Maintain organized workpapers supporting each return. Incorporate reviewer feedback and finalize returns accurately and on schedule. Manage electronic filing processes and maintain filing confirmations and final copies. Track deadlines, extensions, outstanding information, and the status of each return. Support preparation of related filings such as extensions, amended returns, Form 990-T, and applicable state charitable registrations as assigned.

Year-Round Responsibilities: Assist with nonprofit tax research and compliance inquiries. Maintain client tax calendars and monitor upcoming filing requirements. Review client accounting records for tax readiness and recommend corrections. Support year-end accounting cleanup, reconciliations, and financial statement reviews. Assist with simpler client accounting tasks when tax workload allows. Maintain and improve Form 990 templates, checklists, workpapers, and internal procedures. Contribute to the development of internal guidance and training materials on nonprofit tax compliance. Monitor IRS updates and communicate relevant changes to clients and internal teams. Participate in other accounting and compliance projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. Two to four years of relevant accounting or tax experience. Practical experience preparing U.S. tax returns. Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledgers, trial balances, and account reconciliations. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to interpret technical instructions accurately. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet filing deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and document management tools.

Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience preparing Forms 990 or 990-EZ for U.S. nonprofit organizations. Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting, restricted funds, and functional expense reporting. Familiarity with Form 990 schedules, Form 990-T, extensions, and state charitable filings. Experience using professional tax-preparation software. Exposure to working with U.S.-based clients or accounting teams. Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CA, CPA, or equivalent, whether completed or in progress.

The ideal candidate is organized, meticulous, and comfortable handling detailed financial information. You should be proactive in researching unfamiliar issues, asking questions when information is incomplete, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and documentation. Success in this role means preparing accurate, well-supported returns, consistently meeting deadlines, identifying issues early, communicating clearly, responding constructively to feedback, and taking ownership of assigned returns from start to finish. Additionally, you will contribute to strengthening and standardizing the firm’s Form 990 preparation process.
