At Disrupt, we leverage hands-on engineering, AI tools, and a disciplined delivery approach to help teams build and enhance software solutions. Our software factory seamlessly connects business context, specifications, implementation, and verification. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work embedded within a customer’s team, gaining a deep understanding of their business operations and taking ownership of measurable customer outcomes. Collaborating closely with business users, engineers, and our central factory team, you will apply insights from each engagement to continuously improve our tools and methods.
Key Responsibilities
Discover the right problem: Map workflows, identify decision owners, data sources, dependencies, and constraints. Define meaningful customer outcomes, establish baselines, and determine how progress will be measured.
Build and integrate: Translate requirements into functional software by connecting APIs, databases, and third-party systems. Adapt to unfamiliar codebases and work across the full application stack as needed.
Earn the customer’s trust: Facilitate working sessions, clearly explain technical decisions, and actively contribute as a team member. Understand organizational dynamics and assist in adopting improved ways of working.
Make delivery repeatable: Document business rules, decisions, and specifications, linking them to implementation and acceptance evidence to ensure continuity and clarity for future teams.
Follow through after launch: Validate outcomes against agreed targets, investigate any failures, support adoption efforts, and provide thorough documentation and user training while respecting customer data boundaries.
Improve the factory: Identify recurring challenges and collaborate with the central team to develop reusable integrations, tools, or delivery patterns. Provide evidence-based feedback to influence product priorities.
Exercise judgment: Balance customer needs with sustainable delivery practices. Make trade-offs transparent, challenge unrealistic commitments diplomatically, and escalate blockers promptly.
Required Qualifications
Proven software delivery: Demonstrated experience building and supporting software used by real users. Ability to articulate your contributions, decision-making process, and verification methods.
Engineering breadth: Strong full-stack development skills with confidence in APIs, databases, and application logic. Capable of debugging unfamiliar systems and quickly learning new technologies.
Practical AI fluency: Experience working with coding agents, large language model (LLM) applications, or AI-enabled workflows. Skilled in inspecting, testing, troubleshooting outputs, and discerning when simpler solutions are preferable.
Obsession with customer outcomes: Focus on delivering measurable business value. Define success criteria, track progress, and ensure software delivers real-world benefits.
Systems thinking: Ability to connect people, processes, data, and technology. Trace root causes, dependencies, and downstream effects before implementing changes.
Clear communication: Strong listening skills, ability to lead discussions with both business and technical stakeholders, and proficiency in writing clear, decision-enabling explanations.
Low ego and organizational awareness: Understand decision-making structures and motivations. Accept feedback gracefully, share credit, and maintain trust even when disagreeing.
Solution-oriented approach: Proactive under uncertainty, able to present workable options when facing obstacles, adapt quickly to new information, and consistently follow through on routine tasks.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience in customer-facing roles such as forward-deployed engineering, solutions delivery, implementation, founding engineering, or technical consulting is highly valued. Background in enterprise integrations, regulated environments, or software operating within complex access and data constraints is advantageous. Familiarity with Python or TypeScript, cloud deployments, agent integrations like MCP, or transforming specifications into verified software will strengthen your candidacy.
This role suits individuals who enjoy balancing direct customer engagement with hands-on implementation, taking responsibility through adoption, and streamlining repeated work for future deployments. At Disrupt, we prioritize demonstrated capability and a growth mindset over formal degrees, previous employers, or job titles.
