Founding Engineer

Huzzle is seeking a highly skilled Founding Fintech Engineer to join an exciting 0→1 opportunity to build a financial platform from the ground up within an established and profitable ecosystem. This role involves working closely with the founders and an existing developer to architect and develop a neobank-style platform covering business onboarding, KYC/KYB, accounts, payments, cards, FX, ledgers, reconciliation, and money movement. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer or technical lead who thrives on writing production code and solving complex problems without relying on established playbooks. As one of the earliest engineers, you will have significant influence over architecture, technology choices, financial domain models, provider integrations, and engineering standards, helping shape the future team around the platform.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build core financial infrastructure, including accounts, balances, ledgers, KYC/KYB workflows, transaction state machines, and reconciliation systems.
- Design and implement integrations with regulated banking partners, card issuers, payment providers, and payment rails such as ACH, wires, international payments, and FX.
- Develop a provider-independent architecture that supports multiple banks and financial infrastructure partners without dependency on a single provider.
- Build secure, reliable financial APIs and data models to support complex transaction and money-movement workflows.
- Create asynchronous systems involving queues, events, retries, idempotency, exception handling, and transaction processing.
- Develop card issuing and management integrations alongside multi-currency and FX functionality.
- Build internal operations, compliance, permissions, limits, and approval tooling.
- Own systems and features end-to-end, from architecture and database design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operation.
- Collaborate directly with founders to translate business and product requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
- Establish engineering standards and technical foundations to support future team growth.
- Take initiative in ambiguous situations and independently solve complex technical and product challenges.

Required Qualifications
- 3–8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend or full-stack fundamentals.
- Proven hands-on experience building production-grade APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
- Experience working on complex systems where reliability, consistency, and data integrity are critical.
- Strong skills in database architecture, data modeling, and system design.
- Familiarity with asynchronous workflows, including queues, events, retries, idempotency, and failure handling.
- Excellent engineering judgment with the ability to balance speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Demonstrated experience owning technical systems or major product areas end-to-end.
- Strong product instincts and ability to translate ambiguous requirements into working software.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, early-stage or 0→1 environment.
- A natural technical leader who takes initiative without relying on large teams or established processes.
- Highly hands-on and passionate about writing and shipping production code.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Preferred candidates will have significant hands-on experience in fintech, neobanking, banking infrastructure, payments, or financial technology. Experience building core banking, payment, ledger, card, FX, reconciliation, or money-movement infrastructure is highly valued. Prior roles as an individual contributor or technical lead at leading fintechs, neobanks, or financial infrastructure providers are a plus. Familiarity with companies such as Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Nubank, Brex, Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, Nium, Razorpay, Adyen, Checkout.com, PayPal, Column, or Modern Treasury is advantageous. Experience designing financial ledgers, transaction state machines, reconciliation systems, KYC/KYB compliance workflows, regulated banking integrations, card issuing, payment-processing infrastructure, and multi-currency or FX-heavy products is desirable. Candidates who have helped take products from 0→1 in early-stage engineering teams will thrive in this role.
