Full-Stack Software Engineer (Python and React)

We are seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer skilled in Python, React, TypeScript, and React Native to join our innovative technology company. This remote, full-time independent contractor role is suited for junior to mid-level engineers who are eager to work on challenging projects that combine human insight with artificial intelligence. You will contribute to building and improving applications across user interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases, and automated testing, while gaining practical experience in a collaborative environment that values feedback and code review.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain maintainable React and TypeScript user interfaces alongside Python backend services using Django or FastAPI.
- Build and support React Native mobile applications, understanding the full mobile app lifecycle including builds and distribution.
- Implement REST APIs, integrate frontend and backend components, and design database models and queries.
- Write unit, integration, and contribute to end-to-end tests to ensure software quality.
- Investigate and resolve defects, optimize performance, and adhere to secure coding practices.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, designers, QA specialists, and fellow engineers to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Estimate tasks, communicate progress regularly, and proactively raise risks or blockers.
- Use Git for version control, including branches, pull requests, code reviews, and documentation of technical decisions.
- Employ AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly, verifying generated code and safeguarding client data.

Required Qualifications
- Practical experience in Python development, especially building REST APIs with Django or FastAPI.
- Proficiency in React JS and TypeScript, including reusable components, hooks, state management, and API integration.
- Experience with React Native and a solid understanding of mobile application builds and distribution processes.
- Strong skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for creating responsive and accessible interfaces.
- Knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including ORM usage and migrations.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks for Python and React such as pytest, Vitest, Jest, or React Testing Library.
- Experience with Git-based collaboration workflows including branching, pull requests, reviews, and merges.
- Understanding of security fundamentals such as authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure secret management.
- Clear communication skills, a methodical approach to problem-solving, and an openness to learning from feedback.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with Go programming language.
- Familiarity with UI libraries like Material UI or Tailwind CSS.
- Knowledge of end-to-end testing tools such as Playwright or Selenium.
- Exposure to AWS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience developing AI-enabled applications using large language model APIs, structured outputs, tool calling, agents, or retrieval-augmented generation.

You are not required to have experience in all preferred technologies to apply.

This role requires full-time commitment and collaboration with distributed teams, working schedules that overlap with UK and Houston-based colleagues and clients.
