We are seeking a skilled GIS professional to develop and manage geodatabases in editable, georeferenced formats to support biodiversity and habitat research projects. The role involves close collaboration with the modelling team to conduct species distribution and habitat suitability analyses. The successful candidate will also perform multi-criteria hotspot delineation and generate Hotspot Priority Index maps. Expertise in remote sensing analysis using datasets such as Sentinel, Landsat, and DEM is essential for producing land use/land cover (LULC), NDVI, fragmentation, connectivity, and threat maps. The position includes responsibilities for delivering comprehensive GIS databases and maps, overseeing data handover processes, and providing GIS training to relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain GIS geodatabases in editable and georeferenced formats.
- Collaborate with the modelling team to perform species distribution and habitat suitability modelling.
- Conduct multi-criteria hotspot delineation and prepare Hotspot Priority Index maps to identify critical biodiversity areas.
- Perform remote sensing analyses using Sentinel, Landsat, and DEM data to generate LULC, NDVI, fragmentation, connectivity, and threat maps.
- Prepare and deliver GIS databases and map products as part of project deliverables.
- Manage data handover to clients or partner organizations ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Provide GIS training sessions to enhance the capacity of team members and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or MPhil degree in GIS, Remote Sensing, Geography, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional or research experience in GIS database development and spatial analysis.
- Proven expertise in remote sensing techniques and spatial modelling.
- Demonstrated experience in habitat suitability mapping and biodiversity hotspot analysis.
