GitHub Specialist

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as a GitHub Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for creating realistic and challenging computer-based tasks involving GitHub and related Git workflows. Your role includes designing practical GitHub tasks, clearly documenting them using SuperAnnotate, ensuring your technical setup supports the tasks, and recording yourself performing these tasks on your computer. The tasks you develop may cover a wide range of GitHub functionalities such as repository setup, branch management, commits, pull requests, issues, code reviews, README updates, file edits, GitHub Actions basics, project boards, release notes, collaboration workflows, and documentation changes. Your contributions will support the training of advanced AI models to better understand how real users navigate software collaboration and version control processes.

The company provides training data to some of the world’s leading AI organizations and foundation-model labs. By leveraging your GitHub expertise, you will play a direct role in enhancing premier AI models by demonstrating how users complete practical version control, repository management, and developer collaboration tasks.

Key Responsibilities

- Create realistic GitHub tasks that are challenging and executable on a computer. Document these tasks clearly within SuperAnnotate to ensure ease of understanding.
- Prepare your work environment to support each task, including having GitHub access, test repositories, relevant files, branches, sample issues, and any necessary tools ready before recording.
- Record yourself performing the GitHub tasks on your computer, following project instructions closely to maintain clarity, completeness, and realism in the workflow.
- Provide detailed documentation of each task’s context, including steps, goals, repository details, files involved, and notes, so reviewers can fully comprehend the task and its completion.
- Demonstrate practical software use by completing workflows involving repositories, commits, branches, pull requests, issues, README updates, code reviews, project boards, or GitHub Actions as applicable.
- Maintain high-quality submissions by reviewing your recordings and documentation to ensure tasks are complete, understandable, realistic, and aligned with project guidelines.

Required Qualifications

- Proven hands-on experience using GitHub for managing repositories, branches, commits, pull requests, issues, documentation, code reviews, and collaboration workflows.
- Proficiency in English at a B2 level or higher to accurately understand project instructions, document tasks clearly, and communicate effectively with the project team.
- Comfortable working with computers, browser-based tools, GitHub, files, folders, code editors, terminals, and recording software to capture workflows.
- Ability to design realistic and challenging GitHub tasks that reflect actual software development, documentation, collaboration, administration, or project management scenarios.
- Strong understanding of GitHub fundamentals, including repositories, commits, branches, pull requests, merge conflicts, issues, README files, permissions, and project boards.
- Capability to ensure your technical setup supports task execution, including having GitHub access, test repositories, necessary files, Git installation if required, and relevant references prepared before recording.
- High attention to detail in task preparation, workflow execution, and quality checking of recordings and documentation.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and able to consistently deliver quality work in a remote, hourly contractor role across different time zones.
