SMEC is seeking an experienced Head of Contracts & Claims to lead contract management and claims resolution for a hydropower project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan. This role requires a professional with extensive expertise in FIDIC contracts, contract administration, and dispute resolution, particularly within the hydropower and dam construction sectors. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring contractual compliance, managing claims efficiently, and supporting project delivery through effective risk management and stakeholder collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and manage contracts for hydropower projects, ensuring clarity in scope, terms, and conditions.
- Ensure all contracts comply with legal requirements and project specifications.
- Manage and resolve claims, disputes, and contractual issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare and present regular reports on contract performance, claims status, and emerging risks to senior management.
- Collaborate with legal advisors and external consultants to address complex claims and disputes.
- Identify potential contractual risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of all contracts, claims, and related correspondence.
Required Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Civil Engineering (BE/B.Sc) or a Master’s degree in Construction Management or Contract Management, with additional weight given to advanced qualifications.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in contract management, construction administration, and claims resolution, with a strong focus on hydropower projects.
- In-depth knowledge of hydropower project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience managing FIDIC contracts.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders to build trusted relationships and drive project success.
