The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) in Karachi, Pakistan, is seeking an experienced Head Nurse for its Department of Surgery. AKUH is a renowned not-for-profit healthcare institution offering comprehensive medical services through its tertiary care hospital, a network of secondary care hospitals, numerous medical centers, clinical laboratories, and pharmacies across Pakistan. The hospital is committed to high standards of patient care, supported by accreditations such as Joint Commission International (JCI) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The Department of Surgery provides a wide range of specialized surgical services and integrates teaching and research through its extensive faculty and academic programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage 24/7 staffing schedules in accordance with hospital standards to ensure quality and safe patient care, remaining available for shifts as needed.
- Demonstrate excellent management skills to execute quality patient care, ensuring timely completion of physician rounds and accurate monitoring of patient treatment plans.
- Regularly engage with patients and their families to address and resolve complaints or concerns related to care.
- Collaborate with support service departments to maintain high-quality patient care and meet patient requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to implement quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing unit core processes.
- Establish, monitor, and ensure adherence to unit-based standards, goals, objectives, and priorities.
- Foster creativity, initiative, and innovation among nursing staff while mentoring and supporting their professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from an accredited institution; a Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Valid nursing license issued by the Pakistan Nursing Council.
- Minimum of four years of relevant nursing experience, including at least two years in a nursing management role.
- Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Safe Medication Administration, Aseptic Techniques, Intravenous (I/V) Cannulation, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including mornings, evenings, and nights.
