The Head of Software Engineering will lead Clarisync’s software development teams to consistently deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality enterprise software aligned with the company’s ambitious product roadmap. This role focuses on maximising engineering output through strong leadership, disciplined execution, technical excellence, and fostering a high-performance culture. Collaborating closely with Product Management, Solution Architecture, Quality Assurance, and the Head of Platform Engineering, the role ensures that product requirements translate into robust, maintainable, and scalable software in line with Clarisync’s long-term architectural vision. While this role provides technical leadership for software engineering, other specialist functions handle Platform Engineering, DevOps, Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, SecOps, AI Engineering, and R&D. Success is measured by the ability to deliver complex software rapidly, maintain exceptional quality, and build an engineering organisation that supports Clarisync’s global growth.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop multiple software engineering teams.
- Cultivate a high-performing engineering culture based on ownership, accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Drive engineering capability through coaching, career development, and succession planning.
- Align engineering resources effectively with business priorities and product delivery goals.
- Promote consistent engineering standards and professional growth across all teams.

Software Delivery Excellence
- Oversee the successful delivery of Clarisync’s product roadmap with predictable, high-quality software releases.
- Maximise engineering throughput while maintaining quality, maintainability, and security.
- Manage sprint execution, delivery planning, dependency resolution, and engineering forecasting.
- Remove obstacles to enable teams to perform at their best.
- Balance rapid delivery with long-term platform sustainability and technical quality.

Technical Leadership & Application Architecture
- Provide technical guidance across application development teams.
- Ensure software solutions adhere to Clarisync’s architectural principles and platform vision.
- Lead key technical design decisions, code quality, and engineering standards.
- Advocate for scalable, modular, and maintainable software architectures suitable for enterprise SaaS.
- Collaborate with Solution Architecture to maintain consistency across products, services, and integrations.

Engineering Excellence
- Maintain and evolve software engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Champion clean code, disciplined engineering, code reviews, automated testing, and maintainable design.
- Manage technical debt alongside new feature development.
- Establish engineering metrics to support predictable delivery, quality, and operational excellence.
- Encourage continuous learning and adoption of best practices aligned with organisational growth.
- Ensure up-to-date software architecture documentation and knowledge management.

Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into high-quality software.
- Work with Solution Architecture to align engineering execution with long-term architectural goals.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to enhance software quality and release confidence.
- Coordinate with the Head of Platform Engineering to support development through modern platforms and CI/CD pipelines.
- Support Customer Success and Support teams in resolving complex technical issues and improving customer outcomes.

People Leadership
- Recruit, retain, and develop exceptional software engineering talent.
- Build engaged teams capable of delivering enterprise software at scale.
- Develop future technical leaders within the organisation.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Master’s degree is advantageous.
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise software engineering organisations.
- Proven leadership of multiple software engineering teams delivering enterprise SaaS platforms.
- Experience delivering complex, integration-rich B2B software products.
- Strong background in enterprise application architecture and scalable software design.
- Expertise in modular, API-first software platforms supporting enterprise-scale customers.
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and modern engineering management practices.
- Solid grasp of software engineering principles, design patterns, and enterprise integration.
- Experience collaborating with Product Management, Solution Architecture, Quality Assurance, and Platform Engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing engineering organisations.

Technical Knowledge
- Proficiency in PHP (Laravel), Python, Java, Node.js.
- Experience with Angular, React frameworks.
- Skilled in RESTful APIs, SQL, and distributed databases.
- Familiarity with microservices and mono repo architectures.
- Cloud-native application development expertise.
- Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with Git-based source control and modern software design patterns.
