Hydrogen Plant Operator

SCADA Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Hydrogen Plant Operator to join their Plant Operations team at the Port Qasim facility in Karachi. This full-time role requires an individual with 1 to 3 years of experience who will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining hydrogen plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance. The operator will closely monitor operating parameters, inspect equipment regularly, identify any abnormalities, maintain detailed operational records, and strictly adhere to safety protocols when handling hydrogen and related process systems.

Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor hydrogen plant equipment following approved procedures. Track hydrogen production systems, including pressure, temperature, and flow rates. Manage hydrogen compressors, valves, pipelines, and associated equipment as needed. Conduct routine field inspections to detect leaks, unusual noises, vibrations, overheating, or equipment malfunctions. Report any operational abnormalities promptly to the shift supervisor. Assist with plant start-up, shutdown, routine operations, and troubleshooting within authorized limits. Regularly check alarms, instruments, safety devices, and operating indicators to maintain safe plant conditions. Follow all hydrogen handling procedures, gas leak response protocols, permit-to-work, and lockout/tagout requirements. Maintain accurate shift logs, inspection checklists, pressure readings, and operational reports. Collaborate effectively with control room operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors to ensure continuous operations. Uphold good housekeeping standards and comply with industrial safety and environmental regulations. Immediately report hydrogen leaks, suspected gas releases, fire hazards, or unsafe conditions, and adhere to emergency response procedures. Participate in preventive maintenance and safety inspections as required.

Required Qualifications
A Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Technology, or a related field. Between 1 and 3 years of experience in industrial plant operations, preferably within hydrogen production, gas processing, chemical manufacturing, or compressor operations. Basic knowledge of gas handling systems, compressors, pressure vessels, pipelines, and industrial instrumentation. Awareness of hydrogen-specific hazards such as flammability, leak detection, ignition risks, and high-pressure gas safety. Ability to follow operating procedures accurately, identify abnormal conditions, and respond effectively to emergencies according to site protocols. Willingness to work rotating shifts if required.

Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with hydrogen compressors or industrial gas systems is highly desirable. Familiarity with pressure gauges, temperature indicators, flow meters, gas detectors, and safety interlocks will be an advantage. Knowledge of industrial fire safety, emergency shutdown procedures, and permit-to-work systems is preferred.
