The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), part of the World Bank Group, is seeking an experienced Investment Officer specializing in Trade Finance to be based in Karachi, Pakistan. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a global community dedicated to addressing critical development challenges, particularly job creation in emerging markets. The position involves a dual focus, spending equal time supporting IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP) and MIGA’s trade finance activities, including engagement with both private and state-owned banks. The incumbent will report primarily to MIGA’s Regional Head in Colombo and have a dotted line to IFC’s Regional Lead for Trade and Supply Chain Finance. This role requires strong collaboration with government entities, financial institutions, and internal teams to expand trade finance programs and manage existing portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and execute trade finance transactions under IFC’s GTFP in Pakistan and the broader MCA VPU region, maintaining close contact with issuing and confirming banks.
- Monitor daily trade finance operations, ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and facilitating timely processing of amendments and cancellations.
- Propose and lead adjustments to GTFP limits based on market demand and risk appetite.
- Develop new business opportunities under IFC’s trade finance products, including Global Supply Chain Finance, Global Trade Liquidity Program, and Commodity Finance facilities.
- Support the formulation of country and regional trade finance strategies in coordination with relevant teams.
- Onboard and integrate state-owned issuing banks into IFC’s GTFP program, maintaining and expanding relationships with regional and international confirming banks.
- Identify opportunities to mobilize private financing and investments through MIGA and the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform.
- Lead engagement with government stakeholders, including managing Host Country Approvals and introducing new projects.
- Collaborate with regional teams to explore outbound investment opportunities and engage with industry associations, corporates, and investors.
- Monitor MIGA’s existing project portfolio in Pakistan and act as liaison during senior management visits.
Required Qualifications
- MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in trade finance with an international commercial bank or financial institution.
- In-depth knowledge of the Pakistan banking sector and commercial banking products, including correspondent banking and international trade finance.
- Strong expertise in corporate trade finance and supply chain finance products.
- Excellent financial, credit, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in teams and manage organizational priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in Urdu is preferred.
