The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), part of the World Bank Group, is seeking an experienced Investment Officer specializing in Trade Finance based in Karachi, Pakistan. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a global team addressing critical development challenges by supporting trade finance initiatives in Pakistan. The position involves a dual mandate, spending equal time supporting IFC’s Global Trade Finance Program (GTFP) and MIGA’s trade finance and investment guarantee activities. The successful candidate will engage with both private and public sector banks, develop strategic partnerships, and manage portfolios to facilitate trade and investment that promote economic growth and job creation.

Key Responsibilities

- Originate and execute trade finance transactions with issuing banks under IFC’s GTFP in Pakistan and the broader MCA VPU region, maintaining strong relationships with confirming banks.
- Monitor daily trade finance transactions, ensure compliance with corporate and operational guidelines, and coordinate with IFC’s operations team for timely processing of amendments and cancellations.
- Propose and lead changes to GTFP limits based on market demand and risk appetite.
- Develop new business leads under IFC’s trade and supply chain finance products, including Global Supply Chain Finance, Global Trade Liquidity Program, and Commodity Finance facilities.
- Contribute to the formulation of country and regional trade finance strategies.
- Onboard and integrate state-owned banks into IFC’s GTFP program, maintaining and expanding relationships with regional and international confirming banks.
- Identify opportunities to mobilize private financing and investments through MIGA and the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform.
- Lead engagement with the Government of Pakistan in coordination with MIGA’s regional and Washington-based teams, including managing Host Country Approvals.
- Support outbound investment initiatives with MIGA/WBG guarantees by engaging with industry associations, corporates, and investors.
- Monitor MIGA’s existing project portfolio in Pakistan and liaise with portfolio management teams.
- Act as liaison during in-country visits by senior management and other staff.

Required Qualifications

- MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in trade finance with an international commercial bank or financial institution.
- In-depth knowledge of the Pakistan banking sector and commercial banking products, including correspondent banking and international trade finance.
- Strong expertise in corporate trade finance and supply chain finance products.
- Excellent financial analysis and credit evaluation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients and colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Proficiency in English is required; fluency in Urdu is preferred.
