We are seeking a motivated Junior Data / Business Intelligence Engineer to join our expanding BI & Data team. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals with up to two years of experience who are eager to develop their skills in modern data and reporting technologies. You will support the team by building Power BI reports, writing SQL queries, and assisting with the migration from Azure Synapse Analytics to Microsoft Fabric. This position offers hands-on learning under the guidance of experienced engineers, with increasing responsibility as your expertise grows. We value curiosity, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of data fundamentals over a polished resume.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models alongside senior engineers.
- Write and optimize SQL queries, views, and basic transformation logic on existing data sources.
- Support the creation and maintenance of data pipelines for routine data loads, escalating complex issues when necessary.
- Contribute to the migration of Azure Synapse workloads to Microsoft Fabric, gaining knowledge of Lakehouse and Warehouse concepts.
- Participate in star-schema data modeling tasks, including understanding fact and dimension tables and their relationships.
- Create basic DAX measures and Power Query transformations with guidance.
- Conduct data quality checks and flag reconciliation issues for review.
- Assist in troubleshooting data discrepancies, refresh failures, and pipeline errors.
- Follow team standards for naming conventions, documentation, and development practices.
- Collaborate closely with BI team members, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand and fulfill reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Up to 2 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or related roles, including internships and academic projects.
- Proficient in SQL, capable of writing SELECT queries, joins, filters, and basic aggregations.
- Basic familiarity with Power BI, including experience building simple reports or dashboards in academic, personal, or professional contexts.
- Understanding of core data concepts such as tables, relationships, data types, and basic data modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data accuracy.
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn and grow within a structured team environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
While not required, the following skills and experiences are valued and will be supported for development:
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric components such as Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, and Notebooks.
- Basic knowledge of DAX or Power Query/M language.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts or data pipeline tools.
- Experience with Python, PySpark, or notebooks through academic or personal projects.
- Exposure to Git or other version control systems.
- Progress toward Microsoft certifications like PL-300 (Power BI) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer).
- Experience integrating or querying data from ERP, e-commerce, or other business systems, even in coursework.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
Educational Requirements and Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience combined with relevant certifications will also be considered.
