KiCad Specialist

In this remote, hourly contractor position, you will serve as a KiCad Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for creating realistic and challenging computer-based tasks using KiCad and related PCB design workflows. Your role involves designing practical KiCad tasks, documenting them clearly within SuperAnnotate, preparing your work environment to support these tasks, and recording yourself performing the tasks on your computer. The tasks you develop and execute will contribute to training advanced AI models by demonstrating how real users complete electronic design and PCB layout workflows.

Key Responsibilities

- Create realistic KiCad tasks that reflect practical electronics and PCB design scenarios. Document these tasks clearly and comprehensively in SuperAnnotate.
- Prepare your work environment by ensuring KiCad is installed, project files and component libraries are ready, schematic references are available, and all necessary assets are organized before recording.
- Record your execution of the KiCad tasks on your computer, following project instructions to ensure the workflow is clear, complete, and realistic.
- Provide detailed task context, including steps, goals, circuit information, project files, component notes, and references so that reviewers fully understand the task and its completion.
- Demonstrate practical use of KiCad software by completing workflows such as schematic capture, footprint assignment, PCB routing, layer management, electrical rule checks (ERC/DRC), symbol and footprint editing, fabrication output generation, and troubleshooting common PCB design issues.
- Maintain high-quality submissions by reviewing recordings and documentation to ensure tasks are complete, understandable, realistic, and aligned with project guidelines.

Required Qualifications

- Proven hands-on experience using KiCad for schematic design, PCB layout, footprint assignment, routing, design-rule checks, Gerber file export, and general electronics design workflows.
- English proficiency at B2 level or higher to accurately understand project instructions, document tasks clearly, and communicate effectively with the project team.
- Comfortable with computer operations including managing project files, installing and opening required software, navigating engineering/design tools, and recording workflows.
- Ability to design realistic and challenging KiCad tasks that mirror actual use cases in electronics, PCB design, prototyping, engineering, repair, or hardware development.
- Strong foundational knowledge of KiCad concepts such as projects, schematic symbols, footprints, nets, PCB layers, routing, design rules, vias, zones, ERC/DRC checks, and fabrication outputs.
- Capability to ensure your setup fully supports task execution, including having KiCad installed, sample projects and components available, libraries configured, and necessary references prepared prior to recording.
- High attention to detail during task preparation, workflow execution, and quality checks to guarantee recordings are complete, accurate, and easy to understand.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to consistently deliver quality work in a remote, hourly contractor role across different time zones.
