The IT Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting educators and learners by maintaining a stable, secure, and accessible IT environment. This position ensures that technology acts as a facilitator rather than an obstacle to academic success. The role involves proactive troubleshooting, systems administration, and providing guidance to end-users to enhance the overall educational experience.
Key Responsibilities
Helpdesk Support: Provide timely troubleshooting and resolution for hardware, software, and network issues affecting over 500 users.
IT Operations: Deploy, configure, and maintain desktops, peripherals, and academic software to ensure smooth daily operations.
Access Management: Administer user accounts, permissions, and passwords using Active Directory to maintain secure access controls.
Facility Support: Maintain the reliability and functionality of computer labs, smart classrooms, CCTV systems, conference rooms, auditoriums, and AV equipment.
Asset & Compliance Management: Oversee IT inventory, enforce cybersecurity protocols, and maintain accurate technical documentation.
Hardware Deployment: Install, configure, and maintain network hardware such as switches, routers, and Wi-Fi Access Points to support robust connectivity.
CCTV Installation and Maintenance: Install, aim, focus, and maintain IP security cameras in strategic locations to ensure maximum coverage and security.
NVR Management: Configure and manage Network Video Recorders to support video surveillance systems.
VoIP Deployment: Provision, configure, and deploy VoIP phones across offices, labs, and administrative blocks to facilitate efficient communication.
Required Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in Electronics or Information Technology. Candidates must have a minimum of four years of relevant experience in IT support and systems administration.
Preferred Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree (BS/BSc) in Electronics or Information Technology is desirable. Candidates with six years or more of experience will be given preference.
Applicants must submit scanned copies of all academic and professional documents. The highest education certificate or degree must be attested or verified by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Candidates with a third division in their academic record or a weak academic profile may be deemed ineligible.
Additional eligibility criteria include:
- NUST employees with less than one year of service or without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Head of Institution will not be considered.
- Candidates currently pursuing the required degree or medically unfit will be disqualified.
