The Lab Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation and readiness of both the Restaurant and Hotel Laboratories. This position involves managing laboratory inventory, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and preparing equipment and workstations for practical sessions. The Lab Technician will assist faculty members during demonstrations and student activities, provide basic operational support, and ensure all laboratory assets are properly maintained and accounted for. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective coordination with staff and vendors are essential to support the smooth functioning of the labs.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage laboratory inventory, including equipment, utensils, supplies, consumables, and other assigned assets, while maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure the Restaurant and Hotel Labs are clean, organized, safe, and fully prepared prior to practical sessions.
- Prepare, arrange, and verify equipment, materials, tools, and workstations needed for practical classes, demonstrations, and student activities.
- Assist faculty members in setting up and conducting practical sessions, providing operational support to students during laboratory activities.
- Monitor the condition and functionality of laboratory equipment, reporting faults, maintenance needs, repairs, or replacement requirements promptly.
- Maintain proper storage, handling, labeling, and accountability of laboratory equipment, supplies, and consumables.
- Support the operation and routine upkeep of computers, hospitality laboratory systems, and approved software used for teaching and demonstrations.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, computers, and software, coordinating technical support as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, food safety, occupational health and safety, and laboratory procedures.
- Maintain housekeeping standards, including cleaning schedules, workstation readiness, waste handling, and safe storage practices.
- Keep detailed records of equipment usage, maintenance, stock levels, consumables, and other laboratory documentation.
- Support practical demonstrations, mock operations, student projects, assessments, workshops, and other academic or departmental activities.
- Coordinate with faculty, administrative staff, vendors, and maintenance personnel to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Report any safety hazards, equipment damage, stock discrepancies, or operational issues to the designated supervisor.
- Perform additional laboratory-related duties as assigned by the department or supervisor.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution.
- 2-3 years of practical experience in hotel and restaurant operations.
- Ability to work effectively in a hands-on academic laboratory environment.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and detail.
- Responsible handling of equipment, inventory, and consumable items.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty members and students.
- Willingness to learn and operate hospitality technology, systems, and laboratory equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet preparation timelines.
- Professional, reliable, proactive, and service-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications

- Degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Culinary/Food & Beverage Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in responsible handling of equipment and inventory within a hospitality or academic setting.
