The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P), a leading not-for-profit healthcare organization under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), is seeking a qualified Lady Health Visitor (LHV) to join its Field Office in Booni, Upper Chitral. The LHV will deliver primary healthcare services focusing on sexual and reproductive health, family planning, maternal and neonatal care, and health education. This role involves providing culturally sensitive, gender-responsive care to women and adolescent girls in underserved areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. The LHV will collaborate with outreach teams to support community awareness, referral systems, and mobile health activities, ensuring quality and client-centered service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide family planning counseling and administer contraceptive methods including oral pills, injectables, IUCDs, implants, and condoms in accordance with national protocols.
- Conduct antenatal, postnatal, and neonatal checkups, referring high-risk cases to appropriate health facilities.
- Identify and manage minor reproductive tract infections, menstrual health issues, and basic gynecological concerns.
- Provide safe delivery care where applicable and ensure post-delivery follow-up.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions on reproductive rights, safe motherhood, family planning, menstrual hygiene, breastfeeding, and adolescent health.
- Support community-based sessions addressing early marriage, gender-based violence (GBV), and referral services for survivors.
- Promote male engagement and youth-friendly services during outreach activities.
- Participate in outreach/mobile clinic events and health camps in remote villages, ensuring proper setup and maintenance of counseling spaces.
- Collaborate with Community Mobilizers to generate demand and ensure follow-up visits.
- Maintain accurate patient records, service registers, stock registers, and referral logs.
- Submit daily and monthly reports to the District Supervisor/Medical Officer and assist data officers with compiling gender and age-disaggregated data.
- Monitor availability and expiry dates of medical supplies, contraceptives, and essential drugs.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols, including proper waste disposal and hand hygiene.
- Document referrals, follow-ups, and maintain records of counseling and group education sessions.
- Participate in a minimum of three outreach activities per month.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Line Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Lady Health Visitor (LHV) from a recognized institution with valid registration from the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience providing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), family planning (FP), or maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services.
- Competency in family planning methods and maternal health protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate, non-judgmental, and client-friendly approach.
- Familiarity with local languages and cultural norms of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.
- Basic knowledge of record keeping and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
- Strong organizational skills, adaptability, resilience, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- Commitment to cultural sensitivity, inclusiveness, and respect for diverse populations aligned with AKDN values.
Preferred Qualifications and Additional Information
Experience working in remote or rural communities or in outreach-based health interventions is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ethical framework, intellectual humility, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and change. Flexibility to work as required to meet organizational mandates is essential.
