Lead AI/ML Engineer

This is an onsite position based in Islamabad; remote work is not available. Melior ITS is seeking a passionate AI/ML Engineer who thrives on transforming advanced AI research into reliable, production-ready solutions. The role involves building intelligent applications leveraging machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), knowledge graphs, and modern MLOps practices. Key Responsibilities:
Lead and provide technical direction for AI/ML engineering efforts, ensuring alignment with business goals and engineering standards. Own the architecture, design, roadmap, and delivery of AI/ML solutions. Mentor and guide engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and promote best practices. Make critical technical decisions regarding AI/ML frameworks, infrastructure, deployment, scalability, and performance. Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable AI and machine learning applications, including production-grade RAG systems using documents, APIs, vector databases, and knowledge graphs. Develop GraphRAG solutions combining vector retrieval with entity-relationship search. Build intelligent agents and multi-step workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks with state management, conditional routing, and human-in-the-loop controls. Create NLP solutions for document intelligence, classification, extraction, summarization, semantic search, question answering, and conversational AI. Optimize computer vision and deep learning models as needed. Prepare and validate datasets through collection, cleaning, transformation, labeling, and feature engineering. Develop scalable data and ML pipelines using ETL/ELT processes. Integrate AI models with enterprise systems via APIs, databases, queues, and cloud services. Evaluate and optimize models for accuracy, latency, scalability, and cost. Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and assess their business value. Collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers, data engineers, QA teams, and stakeholders. Write comprehensive technical documentation covering architecture, APIs, prompts, data flows, deployment, testing, and support. Troubleshoot AI applications, model-serving infrastructure, cloud deployments, and production issues. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to coding standards, testing, and technical decisions.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in AI, machine learning, deep learning, or data science. Proven experience leading AI/ML projects or teams with ownership of technical direction and delivery. Strong programming skills in Python; knowledge of C/C++ is a plus. Solid understanding of machine learning, deep learning, statistics, NLP, computer vision, and model evaluation. Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, scikit-learn, Pandas, and NumPy. Experience working with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or open-source alternatives. Practical expertise in designing and implementing RAG systems, including document ingestion, parsing, chunking, embedding generation, semantic search, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant), hybrid search, reranking, and hallucination reduction. Knowledge of knowledge graphs and GraphRAG, including ontology design, graph-based retrieval, and graph databases like Neo4j or Amazon Neptune. Experience with LangChain and/or LangGraph for building multi-agent AI workflows with explicit state management and human-in-the-loop processes. Understanding of prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, agent memory, and guardrails. Familiarity with model fine-tuning techniques such as LoRA or QLoRA is advantageous. Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. Experience with REST APIs, FastAPI, asynchronous Python, Docker, and microservice architectures. Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
Experience in MLOps and production engineering, including designing end-to-end ML and LLM pipelines, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub/GitLab, and infrastructure-as-code. Familiarity with MLOps/LLMOps tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, DVC, Airflow, or Prefect. Skills in model and dataset versioning, experiment tracking, automated deployment, and monitoring for model quality, latency, cost, and drift. Knowledge of observability tools such as LangSmith, OpenTelemetry, Arize, or Phoenix.
