Lead AIML Engineer

This onsite position is based in Islamabad and does not offer remote work. Melior ITS is seeking a passionate AI/ML Engineer who thrives on transforming advanced AI research into robust, production-ready solutions. The role involves building intelligent applications leveraging machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), knowledge graphs, and modern MLOps practices to drive innovation and business value.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the AI/ML engineering function by providing technical direction aligned with business goals and product requirements. Own the architecture, design, and delivery of AI/ML solutions, mentoring engineers and enforcing best practices. Make critical decisions on AI/ML architecture, model frameworks, infrastructure, and scalability. Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable AI and machine learning systems, including production-grade RAG applications using documents, structured data, APIs, vector databases, and knowledge graphs. Create GraphRAG solutions combining vector retrieval with entity and relationship-based search. Build intelligent agents and multi-step workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks, incorporating state management, conditional routing, tool integration, retries, checkpoints, and human-in-the-loop controls. Develop NLP solutions for document intelligence, classification, extraction, summarization, semantic search, question answering, and conversational AI. Optimize computer vision and deep learning models as needed. Prepare and validate datasets through collection, cleaning, transformation, labeling, and feature engineering. Develop scalable ETL/ELT data and ML pipelines. Integrate AI models with enterprise systems via APIs, databases, queues, and cloud services. Evaluate and optimize models for accuracy, latency, scalability, reliability, and cost. Conduct research on emerging AI technologies and assess their business impact. Collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers, data engineers, QA teams, and stakeholders. Produce technical documentation covering architecture, APIs, prompts, data flows, deployment, testing, and support. Troubleshoot AI applications, model-serving infrastructure, cloud deployments, and production issues. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to coding standards and technical decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related fields. Minimum 4 years of professional experience in AI, machine learning, deep learning, or data science. Proven leadership experience in AI/ML projects or teams with strong ownership of technical delivery. Proficient in Python programming; experience with C/C++ is a plus. Deep understanding of machine learning, deep learning, statistics, NLP, computer vision, and model evaluation. Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers, scikit-learn, Pandas, and NumPy. Experience with large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or open-source alternatives. Practical knowledge of designing and implementing RAG systems, including document ingestion, parsing, chunking, metadata management, embedding generation, semantic search, and vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, Milvus, Chroma, or pgvector. Familiarity with hybrid search, reranking, query expansion, contextual retrieval, and RAG response generation techniques. Understanding of knowledge graphs and GraphRAG concepts, including ontology design, graph-based retrieval, and graph-enhanced question answering. Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or Amazon Neptune. Skilled in LangChain and/or LangGraph for building complex AI workflows with explicit state management and human-in-the-loop processes. Knowledge of prompt engineering, structured outputs, function calling, tool use, agent memory, context engineering, and guardrails. Experience with model fine-tuning methods like LoRA or QLoRA is advantageous. Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. Familiarity with REST APIs, FastAPI, asynchronous Python, Docker, and microservice architectures. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
Experience in MLOps and production engineering, including designing end-to-end ML and LLM pipelines, versioning, experiment tracking, automated deployment, and monitoring model quality and system health. Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and MLOps tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, DVC, Airflow, or Prefect. Knowledge of observability tools such as LangSmith, OpenTelemetry, Phoenix, or Arize.
