Lead Full Stack / Backend Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Lead Full Stack / Backend Engineer to lead the design, development, and scaling of our ride-hailing platform. The successful candidate will take ownership of backend architecture, API development, real-time ride dispatching, GPS tracking, payment integrations, and operational systems.

This role requires strong hands-on engineering skills, technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and the ability to guide developers in building secure, reliable, and high-performance systems that support passengers, drivers, and business operations.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable software architecture.
• Define technical standards, coding practices, architectural patterns, and development guidelines.
• Make informed decisions regarding technology stacks, database architecture, infrastructure, and system integrations.
• Review code, mentor developers, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
• Break down business requirements into technical specifications and development tasks.
• Collaborate with product and management teams to define technical roadmaps and delivery priorities.

1. Backend Engineering

• Design and maintain robust backend services, RESTful APIs, and real-time communication systems.
• Architect ride booking, driver matching, dispatching, fare calculation, trip management, and cancellation workflows.
• Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access, and API security.
• Optimize database performance, caching, concurrency handling, and transaction processing.
• Design reliable payment, commission, driver wallet, settlement, and reconciliation workflows.
• Integrate mapping services, GPS tracking, push notifications, SMS gateways, and payment providers.
• Build fault-tolerant services with appropriate logging, monitoring, error handling, and recovery mechanisms.

1. Real-Time Ride-Hailing Systems

• Design efficient driver-location tracking and geospatial search capabilities.
• Develop driver allocation algorithms based on proximity, availability, and business rules.
• Ensure reliable handling of simultaneous ride requests and driver acceptance workflows.
• Implement real-time trip status updates and passenger-driver communication.
• Optimize GPS update frequency, location processing, and network usage.
• Develop systems for surge pricing, promotional discounts, commissions, ratings, and trip analytics.
• Ensure consistency and reliability across passenger apps, driver apps, and the admin platform.

1. Full Stack Development

• Lead development of web-based administration panels and operational dashboards.
• Build and maintain frontend applications using React.js or Next.js where required.
• Integrate frontend interfaces with backend APIs and real-time services.
• Develop tools for managing drivers, passengers, rides, pricing, complaints, promotions, and reporting.
• Collaborate with mobile development teams to ensure seamless integration with Android and iOS applications.

1. Infrastructure, DevOps & Performance

• Design and maintain cloud infrastructure using AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent platforms.
• Implement Docker-based deployments, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release processes.
• Monitor production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and improve application uptime.
• Implement caching, message queues, background jobs, and asynchronous processing where appropriate.
• Establish database backup, disaster recovery, access control, and security practices.
• Plan system capacity and performance improvements as ride volume and user traffic grow.

1. Team Management & Delivery

• Lead, mentor, and support backend and full stack developers.
• Conduct code reviews, technical discussions, sprint planning, and progress reviews.
• Coordinate with product managers, QA engineers, mobile developers, and operations teams.
• Establish development milestones and ensure timely delivery of high-quality releases.
• Investigate complex production issues and lead root-cause analysis.
• Promote automated testing, documentation, continuous improvement, and engineering accountability.

• Strong experience in at least one backend stack: Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Java, PHP/Laravel, or .NET.
• Strong knowledge of API design, distributed systems, and software architecture.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, or comparable data technologies.
• Practical experience with WebSockets and real-time event-driven systems.
• Knowledge of GPS, geospatial indexing, location-based search, and mapping APIs.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, CI/CD, monitoring, and production deployments.
• Understanding of message queues such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Experience with security, authentication, payment integrations, and transaction integrity.
• Working knowledge of React.js or Next.js for full stack responsibilities.
• Strong debugging, performance optimization, and system design skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of professional software development experience.
• At least 2 years of experience leading developers or owning major technical systems preferred.
• Previous experience with ride-hailing, logistics, delivery, fleet management, or other location-based platforms is highly desirable.
