Material Engineer

SMEC is seeking a qualified and experienced Material Engineer to join a Dam and Hydropower project based in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This role involves overseeing material sourcing, inspection, testing, and quality control to ensure all construction materials meet project specifications and industry standards. The successful candidate will have a strong background in materials engineering, particularly in large-scale civil engineering projects such as dams and hydropower developments. Working closely with project engineers, contractors, suppliers, and testing laboratories, the Material Engineer will be responsible for maintaining high-quality standards and supporting the project team in resolving material-related issues.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the sourcing, inspection, testing, and quality control of construction materials throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all materials comply with project specifications, relevant industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections to evaluate the quality and suitability of materials used in construction activities.
- Coordinate material testing, including strength, durability, and performance assessments, in collaboration with laboratories and stakeholders.
- Review and maintain accurate documentation of material test results, certifications, approvals, and quality control records.
- Liaise effectively with project engineers, contractors, suppliers, and testing laboratories to ensure timely availability and quality of materials.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to material handling, testing, and storage.
- Provide technical advice on the performance and suitability of construction materials such as concrete, aggregates, cement, steel, and geotechnical materials.
- Support the project team in identifying and resolving any material-related quality issues during construction.

Required Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, such as a B.Sc or BS in Geology or Materials Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience as a Material Engineer, preferably on dam, hydropower, or other large-scale infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge of construction materials including concrete, cement, aggregates, steel, and geotechnical materials.
- Proven experience in material testing, quality assurance, quality control, and compliance with project specifications.
- Familiarity with construction standards, testing methods, and quality management procedures.
- Strong analytical skills, technical reporting capabilities, and problem-solving aptitude.
