We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Worker (Welder + Fitter) to join our team at a chemical plant. The role involves supporting mechanical maintenance, fabrication, welding, installation, and repair activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining mechanical equipment, pipelines, tanks, structures, and other plant machinery, while adhering strictly to HSE and chemical plant safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform arc, MIG, TIG, and gas welding for plant maintenance and fabrication tasks as required.
- Carry out mechanical fitting, assembly, dismantling, installation, and repair of plant equipment.
- Repair and fabricate pipelines, pipe supports, platforms, brackets, tanks, frames, and other mechanical structures.
- Assist in the installation, alignment, and maintenance of pumps, valves, motors, pipelines, flanges, and other mechanical equipment.
- Perform cutting, grinding, drilling, shaping, and fabrication of metal components.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical equipment.
- Identify mechanical faults and assist the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairs.
- Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings, layouts, measurements, and fabrication requirements.
- Perform pipe fitting, flange fitting, gasket replacement, and related mechanical maintenance work.
- Inspect welding joints, fittings, and fabricated components to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
- Operate welding machines, gas-cutting equipment, grinders, drilling machines, and other workshop tools safely.
- Assist in shutdown and turnaround maintenance activities as needed.
- Follow approved work permits, hot work permits, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and plant safety procedures.
- Ensure proper isolation and clearance before starting welding, cutting, or maintenance work.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, gloves, safety shoes, goggles/face shields, protective clothing, and respiratory protection when required.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure tools and equipment are stored safely after use.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, leaks, or other hazards to the supervisor.
- Perform other mechanical maintenance and fabrication duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a welder and fitter in an industrial or chemical plant environment.
- Proficiency in arc, MIG, TIG, and gas welding techniques.
- Strong mechanical fitting skills including assembly, installation, and repair of plant equipment.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and fabrication specifications.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to welding, cutting, and mechanical maintenance.
- Familiarity with the use of welding machines, gas-cutting equipment, grinders, and drilling machines.
- Ability to work under strict adherence to HSE and chemical plant safety protocols.
- Physical fitness to handle manual labor and work in demanding plant conditions.
- Good communication skills to report issues and coordinate with the maintenance team.
