We are seeking an experienced MEP Manager with strong technical expertise and managerial skills to oversee MEP systems in hospital construction projects. The ideal candidate will independently manage, coordinate, inspect, and commission complex healthcare engineering systems throughout all project phases—from design and planning to installation, testing, commissioning, and final handover. This role demands a thorough understanding of hospital-specific MEP requirements and the ability to ensure compliance with stringent healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage BIM and MEP coordination, including the preparation of coordinated shop drawings and clash detection to resolve conflicts among HVAC ductwork, medical gas pipelines, plumbing networks, and electrical cable trays.
- Oversee multiple MEP subcontractors, coordinating installation sequences, monitoring progress, resolving technical issues, and ensuring adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
- Lead the testing, commissioning, validation, and handover of all MEP systems, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with local laws, international healthcare engineering standards, fire and life safety codes, and site Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures.
- Coordinate specialized hospital MEP systems, including mechanical HVAC systems (AHUs, chillers, ventilation), operating theatre and ICU environmental controls, air pressure differentials, filtration, humidity, temperature management, and fire safety systems.
- Manage plumbing and medical gas pipeline systems (MGPS), including medical gas distribution, alarm systems, zone valve arrangements, testing, commissioning, domestic water supply, specialized water treatment, drainage, hazardous wastewater management, and infection-control plumbing.
- Supervise electrical power and critical backup systems, including normal and emergency power distribution, diesel generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), UPS systems, earthing, bonding, electrical protection, and emergency lighting.
- Coordinate MEP infrastructure for specialized medical equipment such as MRI, CT scanners, X-ray machines, including electrical load, cooling, ventilation, shielding, and installation requirements, working closely with equipment suppliers and specialist consultants.
- Address major project challenges such as ensuring regulatory compliance, managing congested ceiling spaces through effective coordination of architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, assessing design changes and their technical implications, and maintaining quality and progress control to meet project schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, with mandatory prior experience as an MEP Manager in hospital construction projects.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and medical gas systems specific to healthcare facilities.
- Proven experience in design review, shop drawing coordination, material approvals, installation supervision, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to effectively coordinate with consultants, contractors, specialist vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare engineering standards, fire and life safety regulations, and infection prevention requirements.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
While not explicitly stated, candidates with additional certifications in healthcare facility engineering or project management will be considered favorably. The role requires working on-site to ensure hands-on management and coordination.
This position offers the opportunity to lead critical MEP operations in complex hospital environments, contributing to the delivery of safe, compliant, and fully operational healthcare facilities.
