The Mobile Product Engineer at KnowledgeCity is the sole owner of all KnowledgeCity mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms. Working within an AI-native framework, this role involves end-to-end responsibility for the mobile experience across all KC products—from initial discovery and specification through engineering, testing, app store submission, release, production monitoring, and ongoing improvements. Unlike traditional mobile developer roles, this position requires managing the entire mobile delivery process independently, leveraging AI agents across various disciplines to ensure stable, high-quality app releases at a rapid pace. The ideal candidate is a proactive, autonomous owner who maintains app health, responds to user feedback, and treats any issues as their own to resolve.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Mobile Ownership: Take full accountability for every KnowledgeCity mobile app on iOS and Android, including KC Safety, KC LMS, and upcoming suite apps. Ensure app health, store presence, user ratings, and release quality are consistently maintained.
- App Store & Google Play Release Management: Manage the entire store submission pipeline, including developer accounts, certificates, provisioning profiles, signing keys, testing tracks (TestFlight and Play internal/closed), store listings, screenshots, privacy disclosures, and submissions. Proactively resolve review rejections without escalation.
- AI Agent Orchestration: Lead and coordinate AI agents across roles such as Developer, QA Engineer, UX Designer, DevOps, Document Writer, and Architect to design, build, test, and document mobile features. Critically review all AI-generated outputs before deployment.
- Cross-Platform & Native Engineering: Develop and maintain apps using cross-platform frameworks like React Native or Flutter, complemented by native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) expertise for platform-specific features such as push notifications, deep links, offline sync, biometrics, and permissions. Keep apps updated with the latest OS and SDK requirements.
- Platform Integration: Integrate mobile apps with the KnowledgeCity platform, including User Directory SSO, role-based access, product APIs, notifications, and analytics. Collaborate closely with Product Engineers to align mobile releases with web and backend updates.
- Production Ownership & Post-Release Validation: Validate every release on real devices within one hour of going live, covering core user flows, sign-in, offline behavior, and edge cases. Continuously monitor crash rates, performance, and store metrics. Manage phased rollouts with the ability to halt or roll back releases immediately if stability issues arise.
- Store Ratings & User Feedback: Monitor app store reviews, ratings, and crash reports daily. Respond to users promptly, prioritize recurring issues for fixes, and ensure no backlog of unresolved reviews or outages.
- Release Governance & Documentation: Maintain a predictable release cadence with clear release notes, version tracking, and rollback plans. Deliver user guides, operational runbooks, and documentation alongside every release.
- Sprint Rhythm & Stakeholder Communication: Plan and run weekly sprints with clearly defined user outcomes. Submit sprint plans and report on goal completion with reasons for any misses. Communicate proactively with the Head of Product, highlighting risks, blockers, and proposed solutions early.
- Continuous Improvement & Backlog Ownership: Maintain and prioritize the mobile backlog based on store reviews, crash analytics, support tickets, usage data, and product roadmaps, focusing on user impact and business value.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on mobile app development experience, with apps personally shipped and maintained on both Apple App Store and Google Play.
- Proven end-to-end ownership of store releases, including developer accounts, code signing, provisioning, testing tracks, submission, and handling review rejections.
- Strong experience with React Native or Flutter, alongside native iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin) development skills.
- Experience integrating mobile apps with SSO/OAuth, REST APIs, push notification services (APNs/FCM), and analytics or crash-reporting tools such as Firebase Crashlytics or Sentry.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and the ability to critically assess AI-generated code for production readiness.
- Experience setting up mobile CI/CD pipelines using tools like Fastlane, GitHub Actions, or Bitrise, including automated device testing.
- Demonstrated production ownership skills, including crash triage, phased rollouts, hotfixes, and post-release validation on real devices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
