Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital (HSMH), a modern healthcare facility located on the Main National Highway N-5 in Malir, Karachi, is set to open on December 25, 2026. Supported by experienced doctors from the US, the hospital is seeking a Nurse Manager to lead and manage the nursing team across multiple clinical areas. This role is essential to delivering safe, compassionate, and consistent patient care. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for overseeing recruitment, training, workflow development, and ensuring that nursing units are fully prepared to meet patient needs effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Organize daily nursing coverage for clinical areas including emergency, operating rooms, ICU, CCU, inpatient wards, and outpatient services. Establish clear expectations for patient assessment, monitoring, medication administration, documentation, handovers, and escalation of clinical concerns. Conduct regular rounds to identify patient care needs, staffing gaps, equipment issues, and service delays. Collaborate closely with physicians, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and other departments to coordinate timely patient care and discharge processes.

Prepare duty rosters and maintain adequate shift coverage based on patient acuity and staffing availability. Participate actively in hiring, orientation, competency assessments, performance reviews, and ongoing professional development of nursing staff. Provide coaching to charge nurses and nursing personnel, promptly address performance issues, and promote a culture of respectful teamwork. Ensure that all staff understand their roles, responsibilities, and the limits of their training and authorization.

Monitor compliance with nursing policies, infection prevention protocols, patient identification procedures, medication safety, and emergency response plans. Review incidents, near misses, patient complaints, and quality indicators, implementing corrective actions and following up to ensure resolution. Support audits of nursing documentation and engage in hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives. Foster an environment where staff feel encouraged to report safety concerns immediately.

Assist in developing unit workflows, staffing plans, orientation materials, checklists, and nursing policies prior to the hospital’s opening. Confirm that nursing units are stocked with necessary supplies, functioning equipment, documentation tools, and adequately trained staff before accepting patients. Coordinate nursing participation in emergency drills such as resuscitation, fire response, and patient transfer. Identify unresolved risks related to the hospital opening and report them with proposed solutions to leadership.

Monitor nursing supply usage to prevent shortages and minimize waste. Maintain accurate records of staffing, training, incidents, and performance metrics. Contribute to nursing budgets, equipment requests, and plans for service expansion. Provide regular reports on staffing levels, patient safety, quality measures, and operational needs.

Required Qualifications

Nursing qualification recognized for practice in Pakistan with current registration. A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, including at least two years in a supervisory or charge nurse role. Experience in an acute care hospital setting is essential; experience in ICU, CCU, emergency, or surgical services is highly advantageous. Current life support certification relevant to clinical areas or willingness to obtain certification before starting service.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Training in nursing management, infection prevention, quality improvement, or patient safety is desirable. Strong clinical judgment with the ability to escalate concerns promptly. Excellent skills in staff supervision, scheduling, teaching, and conflict resolution. Clear and effective communication abilities with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues. Familiarity with electronic patient records and nursing documentation systems. A commitment to providing compassionate care to all patients, regardless of their financial situation.

The success of the Nurse Manager during the hospital’s opening phase will be measured by the completion of nursing recruitment and orientation, safe staffing of active units, documented staff competencies, readiness of nursing workflows and supplies, and timely resolution of patient safety concerns. Hasan Suleman Memorial Hospital is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to delivering accessible, dignified, and high-quality care to the community.
