We are seeking an experienced payroll professional to manage a diverse portfolio of client payrolls within a dynamic accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive multi-client payroll experience, confidently handling the full payroll cycle while ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory requirements. This role offers the opportunity to develop broader accounting skills, including bookkeeping, VAT preparation, and accounts support, with ongoing training and progression towards becoming a well-rounded practice all-rounder.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a varied client base, covering weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, and monthly payroll frequencies.
- Accurately process RTI submissions, PAYE liabilities, statutory payments, pension assessments, deductions, and year-end payroll tasks within required deadlines.
- Generate payslips, payroll reports, and journals, serving as the primary contact for client payroll queries and ensuring excellent client service.
- Maintain precise payroll records and ensure full compliance with HMRC requirements and current payroll legislation.
- Perform bookkeeping duties and bank reconciliations for clients as part of the accounts training programme.
- Prepare VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital regulations and assist with year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and small limited companies.
- Support management accounts preparation and maintain accurate working papers.
- Gain practical experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks.
- Engage in continuous training to develop broader accounting capabilities and progress towards becoming a versatile member of the practice.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven multi-client payroll experience within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau, or similar outsourced environment.
- Strong knowledge of the full payroll cycle, including RTI submissions, PAYE liabilities, starters, leavers, P45s, P60s, P11Ds, and year-end processes.
- Experience handling statutory payments, student loans, attachment of earnings orders, and auto-enrolment pension submissions.
- Proficiency in payroll software and a solid understanding of current payroll legislation.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple clients and meeting deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage client payroll queries effectively.
- A genuine interest in expanding accounting and accounts preparation skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
- Some experience in bookkeeping or VAT preparation is desirable. Familiarity with Xero or QuickBooks is advantageous.
