A well-established Canadian company is seeking a skilled Payroll Clerk to join their back-office team based in Karachi. This full-time, on-site position involves managing Canadian payroll operations while working closely with Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations teams located in Canada. Candidates must have direct experience with Canadian payroll processes, as this requirement is essential. The role offers a competitive salary of up to PKR 180,000 per month, inclusive of all allowances and benefits. Working hours are from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM at the Tariq Road, Block 2, PECHS office in Karachi.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and processing weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly Canadian payroll for various divisions, including unionized and non-unionized employees.
- Review approved timesheets, employee hours, earnings, deductions, benefits, overtime, time off, and banking details to ensure accuracy.
- Verify payroll tax calculations and investigate any discrepancies promptly.
- Update employee salary rates, wage adjustments, and other payroll-related changes in a timely manner.
- Prepare subcontractor payroll as needed and ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Maintain payroll records, pay statements, and supporting documentation in compliance with statutory requirements.
- Prepare and file source deduction remittances and assist with annual T4 and RL-1 preparation.
- Generate Records of Employment (ROEs) using ROE Web and prepare payroll reports on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis.
- Reconcile payroll reports and support monthly bank reconciliations, payroll audits, and year-end balancing.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, overtime, deductions, benefits, time off, and payroll discrepancies.
- Coordinate with HR, Accounting, and Operations teams to maintain accurate employee and payroll information.
- Continuously improve payroll procedures and perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on Canadian payroll experience is mandatory.
- Solid understanding of Canadian payroll processes, statutory requirements, source deductions, T4s, ROEs, payroll reconciliations, and reporting.
- Experience with payroll or accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar platforms.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation or actively pursuing Canadian payroll certification.
- Experience processing multi-province Canadian payroll.
- Familiarity with unionized and non-unionized payroll environments.
- Experience with payroll, scheduling, or time-tracking systems.
- Exposure to industries such as facility services, security, janitorial, or similar workforce-based sectors.
