A reputable Canadian client is seeking an experienced Payroll Clerk to join their back-office team based in Karachi. This full-time, in-house role requires hands-on experience with Canadian payroll processes. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations teams in Canada to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. This position demands practical knowledge of Canadian payroll statutory requirements, including source deductions, T4s, ROEs, reconciliations, and compliance reporting. Candidates without relevant Canadian payroll experience will not be considered. The working hours are from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, and the office is located at Tariq Road, Block 2, PECHS, Karachi.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and processing weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly Canadian payroll for multiple divisions, including unionized and non-unionized employees.
- Review approved timesheets, employee hours, earnings, deductions, benefits, overtime, time off, and banking details.
- Verify payroll tax calculations and investigate any discrepancies.
- Update employee salary rates, wage adjustments, and other payroll-related changes.
- Prepare subcontractor payroll as needed.
- Ensure accuracy in payroll processing and timely employee payments.
- Maintain payroll records, pay statements, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and file source deduction remittances.
- Assist with annual T4 and RL-1 preparation.
- Generate Records of Employment (ROEs) through ROE Web.
- Prepare payroll reports on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end basis.
- Reconcile payroll reports and assist with monthly bank reconciliations.
- Support payroll audits and year-end balancing activities.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, overtime, deductions, benefits, and payroll discrepancies.
- Coordinate with HR, Accounting, and Operations to maintain accurate employee and payroll information.
- Maintain payroll procedures and contribute to process improvements.
- Perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on Canadian payroll experience is mandatory.
- Practical knowledge of Canadian payroll processes, statutory requirements, and compliance.
- Experience with payroll source deductions, T4s, ROEs, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Proficiency with payroll or accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar platforms.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation or actively pursuing Canadian payroll certification.
- Experience processing multi-province Canadian payroll.
