The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking Protection Case Workers to support a 6.5-month project aimed at strengthening community-based protection, legal assistance, and social cohesion for vulnerable populations across five districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This project focuses on improving access to legal support, case management, and protection services for individuals facing risks such as gender-based violence (GBV) and child protection concerns. The successful candidates will manage assigned caseloads through the full Protection Case Management (PCM) cycle, ensuring timely, safe, and survivor-centered support while working closely with community protection structures and service providers.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide Protection Case Management services to high-risk individuals at the district level, following IRC’s global PCM guidelines, IOM’s operational requirements, and established SOPs.
- Identify and register vulnerable individuals through community outreach, referrals, help desk intake, and self-referrals, prioritizing women at risk, unaccompanied children, persons with disabilities, undocumented individuals, and other high-risk groups.
- Facilitate the full PCM cycle including intake, consent, safety planning, needs assessment, case action planning, referrals, follow-up, and case closure, incorporating client satisfaction assessments.
- Identify clients eligible for Cash for Protection assistance and refer them to IOM through documented, consent-based pathways.
- Establish and maintain quality referrals to specialized services such as mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), legal aid, GBV response, child protection, health, civil documentation, and government social protection programs, ensuring timely service uptake.
- Orient Community-Based Protection Committees (CBPCs), Community Outreach Volunteers (COVs), and service providers on PCM standards and inter-agency referral protocols.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records in the Information Management System in line with IRC’s Client Data Protection Policy and IOM’s data protection principles.
- Report on caseload status to supervisors and actively participate in case conferences, reviews, and supervision sessions.
- Support community awareness activities on protection risks, available services, and referral pathways.
- Document and share success stories and lessons learned regularly with supervisors.
- Build and maintain working relationships with district-level partners including government departments, UN agencies, and local and international NGOs involved in protection work.
- Perform other project-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of field experience in protection case management programming, preferably in emergency settings.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in unstable security environments while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Experience in training, capacity building, and team development.
- Applied experience in protection case management, referral mechanisms, and multi-sectoral protection programming.
- Knowledge of best interests procedures and ethical data collection, analysis, and protection.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and report writing skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Flexibility to work within diverse multicultural teams with respect for local cultures and norms.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with government entities and civil society organizations.

Language Requirements

- Good written and spoken English and Urdu.
- Proficiency in Pashtu and/or relevant local languages.

Reporting and Coordination

This position reports directly to the Case Management Supervisor with dotted reporting to the Protection Manager. The role involves coordination with communities, government departments, civil society organizations, and other protection partners. There are no direct reports for this position.
