We are seeking a detail-oriented Phone Screening Agent to join our remote recruiting team. In this role, you will initiate contact with candidates by phone, asking basic screening questions to assess their fit and interest. Your conversations will help guide candidates to the appropriate next steps, such as scheduling interviews with recruiters. You will maintain clear and accurate notes to ensure candidates do not need to repeat information, and you will work closely with a recruiting team lead who provides guidance and support. This position offers a monthly base salary with additional bonus opportunities and allows you to work fully from home.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review screening questions and candidate lists using an applicant tracking system like Lever to organize your calls.
- Contact applicants via a business phone system or dialer such as Aircall, introducing yourself and explaining the purpose of the call.
- Ask approved questions about candidate interest, availability, workspace suitability, and spoken English, recording answers clearly and accurately.
- Explain the next steps in simple terms and respond to basic candidate questions using approved information; escalate other inquiries to the recruiting team lead.
- Assess candidates based on recruiter guidelines, marking them as ready, not ready, or not a fit, and communicate the next steps politely.
- Schedule recruiter interviews using calendar tools like Google Calendar, confirming dates and times before ending calls.
- Send interview reminders and follow up with candidates who miss interviews to assist with rescheduling as requested by recruiters.
- Update applicant tracking system entries after each call with results, key answers, and next actions to keep recruiters informed.
- Share completed screening notes with recruiters prior to interviews, flagging any unclear responses for further discussion.
- Maintain candidate data accuracy and privacy, marking incorrect numbers, duplicates, and withdrawals, and regularly update the recruiting team lead on call progress.
- Meet quality standards through precise note-taking, courteous communication, accurate scheduling, and timely follow-up, using feedback to improve future calls.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficient spoken and written English, as calls are primarily with candidates and teams based in the United States.
- Access to a computer, mobile phone, stable internet connection, and reliable electricity.
- No prior recruiting experience required; however, experience in phone support, customer service, or interview scheduling is preferred.
- Calm, friendly phone demeanor with the ability to explain questions clearly without rushing candidates.
- Willingness to learn applicant tracking, phone, and scheduling tools through guided training.
- Attention to detail when entering answers, verifying interview dates, and matching notes to the correct candidates.
- Strong respect for candidate privacy and discretion when sharing information with the recruiting team.
- Ability to follow a structured screening outline while actively listening and asking clear follow-up questions.
- Basic understanding of the recruitment process, including application review, screening calls, and recruiter interviews.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits:
- Experience in related phone support or customer service roles is advantageous.
- Fully remote work environment, allowing you to work from home with flexible scheduling.
- Structured onboarding and training on applicant tracking, phone, and scheduling tools, including practical screening exercises.
- Regular check-ins with a team lead to discuss questions, review calls, and receive constructive feedback.
- Opportunities for professional growth within the team by developing skills in candidate screening, scheduling, and support.
- Bonus opportunities in addition to the monthly base salary.
This role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the recruitment process by providing excellent candidate support and ensuring a smooth transition from application to interview.
