The Port Agency Operations Manager will lead the Operations, Intermodal, and Logistics functions in Pakistan, reporting directly to the General Manager. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused service delivery across port and inland operations. Key duties include managing vessel and container operations, yard and gate performance, cargo flow, equipment utilization, and coordinating with stakeholders. The position also drives continuous improvement, productivity, regulatory compliance, and service quality across terminals, depots, and transport networks.
Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Lead and develop a high-performing operations team, aligning staff with Group and agency priorities while reinforcing accountability.
- Monitor KPIs and collaborate with local teams and Global Business Services to enhance productivity, asset utilization, cargo prioritization, dwell time, and cost control.
- Ensure strict compliance with the Group’s Core model, standard processes, and corporate tools within the Operations department.
- Coordinate operational activities among shipping lines, partners, commercial teams, vessel and cargo operations, transshipment, and ship management to optimize port calls.
- Maintain strong relationships with ports, terminals, partners, stevedores, husbandry agents, authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Identify local risks and opportunities, forecast major events, communicate impacts to management and leadership, and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support procurement in contract and SLA renewals, define operational and financial requirements, and coordinate EDI development with IT teams.
- Oversee daughter-agency operations and implement targeted development plans to improve performance.
Intermodal & Logistics
- Lead, coach, and develop the Intermodal & Logistics team to achieve operational excellence.
- Collaborate with the Cross Sales Manager to grow volumes, improve carrier-haulage ratios, and enhance agency performance.
- Ensure delivery of reliable, efficient, and high-quality intermodal and logistics services.
- Meet Head Office targets for Logistics & Intermodal and implement corrective actions as necessary.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Maritime Studies, Port Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience, including at least five years in leadership roles within Port Operations, Logistics, or Intermodal functions.
- Demonstrated expertise in container terminal and vessel operations, inland transport, intermodal solutions, depot management, and equipment utilization.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience in vendor and contractor management, KPI delivery, budgeting, and cost optimization.
- Background in liner shipping companies, terminal operations, freight forwarding, or logistics service providers.
- Regional or international experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
- Professional certifications such as FIATA, CILT, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, Maritime Law, or Port Management are advantageous.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training or certification is highly desirable.
Skills
- Expertise in vessel planning, port-call coordination, stevedoring, cargo handling, and terminal operations.
- Proficiency in rail, road, and multimodal transport planning, depot operations, container repositioning, and carrier haulage solutions.
- Strong digital skills including ERP, SAP, terminal and transport systems, advanced Excel, Power BI, and data analytics.
- Leadership capabilities in strategy, vision, business planning, team coaching, and talent development.
