Principal Software Engineer - Backend

Key Responsibilities

- Quickly gain a deep understanding of the Dubizzle codebase and technology stack within the first few weeks.
- Lead planning sessions for new product features and develop detailed rollout and rollback strategies for releases.
- Stay updated with industry trends and incorporate them into daily work.
- Write unit tests that adhere to established standards to ensure code quality.
- Produce and maintain high-quality, clean code following Dubizzle’s programming practices.
- Actively participate in post-release maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Design elegant solutions to complex technical problems.
- Enhance the reliability and efficiency of existing codebases, platforms, and core systems.
- Influence the technical vision and direction within your area of expertise.
- Mentor and guide team members in a peer-programming environment, regardless of task complexity.
- Conduct thorough code reviews for major pull requests, establish programming standards, and provide constructive feedback.
- Design and deliver multiple RESTful APIs, with experience in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Evaluate and push back on incomplete or unclear requirements.
- Manage the entire software development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
- Lead product planning meetings and architect solutions within your technical stream.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years of professional back-end software engineering experience, with a strong preference for Python.
- Experience working with cloud-hosted infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker is highly desirable.
- Proven experience developing high-traffic, large-scale web products.
- Solid understanding of web infrastructure, distributed systems, SOA, performance analysis, and search infrastructure.
- Experience surviving at least one intense project (“death march”) and understanding pitfalls to avoid.
- Strong grasp of design patterns including asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and data persistence.
- Expertise in caching strategies and layers, including memcached.
- Good knowledge of build process management and continuous integration pipelines.
- Mastery of testing methodologies, including unit, component, and integration tests.
