Principal Software Engineer

Xymbia Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead a focused engineering team supporting Zones on their Digital Platform. This role blends technical leadership, hands-on development, and people management. The successful candidate will shape the platform’s architecture, drive delivery, and oversee a team of lead and software engineers, while remaining actively involved in coding. The position is based in Islamabad, Pakistan, with a hybrid work model requiring two days in the office and the rest remote. The technology stack includes Go (Golang), React, PostgreSQL, StarRocks, and Kafka.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of lead engineers and software engineers to foster growth and high performance.
- Own the technical direction and architectural decisions across backend services, frontend applications, and data systems.
- Actively contribute to critical implementations, conduct design and code reviews, and resolve complex technical issues.
- Collaborate closely with Zones stakeholders to translate business priorities into clear technical plans and delivery milestones.
- Build and enhance services using Go, develop user interfaces with React, and leverage data capabilities through PostgreSQL, StarRocks, and Kafka.
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices related to testing, security, observability, performance, and reliability.
- Balance the delivery of new features with the reduction of technical debt to maintain long-term platform health.
- Support recruitment efforts and cultivate a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.

Required Qualifications
- Proven experience leading the architecture and delivery of complex production software systems.
- Strong hands-on backend engineering skills, preferably in Go, with the ability to guide full-stack development efforts.
- Experience managing and mentoring engineers, including senior or lead-level team members.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, API design, relational databases, and event-driven architectures.
- Practical knowledge of PostgreSQL and Kafka or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with React and modern frontend development practices.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical trade-offs, business priorities, and delivery risks with sound judgment.
- Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating directly with client stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Experience
- Experience with StarRocks or other analytical databases and real-time analytics platforms.
- Background in improving platform scalability, performance, and reliability.
- Knowledge of automated delivery pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and production observability tools.
- Experience delivering software across distributed teams and client environments.
