Principle Engineer

The Principal Engineer will play a critical role within Zones’ digital transformation team, contributing to the growth and evolution of a $2 billion company. This position is based within the Zones Digital Innovation Center, a global network of accelerators located in Seattle, New York, and Islamabad. The center fosters collaboration among business leaders, industry partners, and customers to rapidly develop and scale innovative technology solutions. The Principal Engineer will also work closely with the Zones Digital Platform (ZDP), a next-generation system designed to streamline IT solution discovery, procurement, fulfillment, and support across global enterprises and partner ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical design and implementation strategy for the Zones Digital Platform.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including senior engineering management, program management, and product line management, to guide design efforts.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned technical areas from both software and system perspectives.
- Document and develop specifications for components and subsystems, including material requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and other technical staff.
- Coordinate and communicate technical progress and activities with management and cross-functional teams.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and team members as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience.
- At least 5 years as a principal software engineer supporting enterprise software solutions.
- 5+ years of experience working with e-commerce or payment systems.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Expert-level proficiency in developing microservices using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Proven experience in design, build, and deployment systems for complex projects.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and agile development methodologies.
