We are seeking an expert-level Project Manager to lead Shopify e-commerce web design and development projects from start to finish. This senior position requires a deep understanding of UI/UX design and Shopify Liquid development, with the ability to manage both project execution and client relationships confidently. This role demands full ownership of projects rather than simple coordination, ensuring high-quality delivery and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Project Ownership:
Manage Shopify e-commerce projects including redesigns, conversion rate optimization (CRO) initiatives, and custom development from discovery through launch. Define clear scopes, milestones, timelines, and deliverables. Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. Proactively identify and resolve risks, dependencies, and scope creep.
UI/UX & Design Oversight:
Review UI/UX designs focusing on usability, conversion optimization, and development feasibility. Collaborate closely with designers to ensure designs are scalable and execution-ready. Maintain consistency across layouts, components, and user flows. Challenge design decisions that could negatively impact performance or usability.
Shopify Development Oversight:
Oversee Shopify Liquid development, theme customization, and custom feature implementation. Review development work for performance, code structure, and adherence to Shopify best practices. Promote efficient use of custom code to minimize reliance on paid apps. Validate integrations such as payments, shipping, analytics, and third-party tools.
Client Communication & Relationship Management:
Serve as the primary client contact throughout the project lifecycle. Maintain regular communication, provide clear updates, and manage client expectations. Translate technical and design decisions into understandable terms. Handle feedback, revisions, and difficult conversations professionally and confidently.
Team Leadership & Internal Coordination:
Act as a liaison between designers, developers, QA, sales, and stakeholders. Lead sprint planning, daily stand-ups, progress reviews, and delivery checkpoints. Maintain clear documentation, accountability, and task ownership. Drive teams to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
QA, Launch & Post-Launch:
Own quality assurance across responsiveness, design accuracy, performance, and functionality. Oversee user acceptance testing (UAT), launch readiness, and final approvals. Ensure smooth handover and alignment on post-launch support.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing Shopify e-commerce web design and development projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Shopify Liquid, theme architecture, and the Shopify ecosystem.
- Solid understanding of UI/UX design principles, CRO, and e-commerce user behavior.
- Proven experience managing clients directly and confidently.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in an agency environment.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications and Fit
This role suits candidates who have hands-on experience working closely with both designers and Shopify developers. You should understand conversion-focused e-commerce deeply, not just timelines and tasks. Candidates must take full ownership and accountability for project outcomes and feel comfortable challenging teams when standards are not met. Managing clients independently without escalation or hand-holding is essential.
This position is not suitable for junior or mid-level project managers, those lacking real Shopify or UI/UX experience, or individuals who prefer task tracking over ownership and decision-making.
Hiring Process
Our structured, multi-stage hiring process is designed to identify true experts. Applications are initially reviewed based on relevant Shopify, UI/UX, and project leadership experience. Shortlisted candidates complete a detailed job application form assessing experience depth, decision-making, and communication clarity. Successful applicants proceed to a Capability Evaluation Session, followed by a Role Evaluation Session. Final candidates are interviewed to assess leadership maturity, ownership mindset, client-handling skills, and long-term fit. Only candidates who pass all stages will receive an offer.
