Punjabi Team Lead

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as the Punjabi Quality Assurance Lead (QAL) responsible for overseeing quality, consistency, and trainer performance across Punjabi AI training projects. Your role involves reviewing AI-generated Punjabi content and trainer/QA outputs, evaluating them against project guidelines, and providing clear, precise written feedback. You will ensure that all contributors adhere to the expected quality standards, maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Punjabi training data.

You will assess work for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, meaning preservation, instruction compliance, formatting, and alignment with project-specific rubrics. Identifying recurring quality issues and communicating updates to trainers and QAs will be essential. Additionally, you will support onboarding, maintain documentation, and encourage consistent contributor engagement. This role demands strong Punjabi and English language skills, excellent attention to detail, structured communication, and the ability to manage quality workflows across remote teams.

Your leadership in Punjabi quality assurance will play a critical role in enhancing premier AI models by ensuring that Punjabi training data is natural, accurate, culturally appropriate, thoroughly documented, and aligned with client expectations.

The selection process includes an AI interview, a domain-specific task, and a recruiter interview.

Key Responsibilities

- Quality monitoring: Conduct spot-checks of Punjabi items, identify quality issues, provide ongoing feedback via direct messages, and escalate recurring or critical problems.
- Trainer and QA communication: Keep trainers and QAs informed on Discord about new guidelines, project updates, workflow changes, and quality expectations.
- Question handling: Address trainer and QA queries promptly and clearly, especially concerning Punjabi wording, register, translation fidelity, cultural context, dialect variations, script requirements (Gurmukhi/Shahmukhi), and edge cases.
- Trainer/QA activation management: Reach out to inactive contributors to encourage engagement, track follow-ups, and flag availability concerns when necessary.
- Documentation: Develop and maintain Punjabi project documentation, including style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
- Onboarding and training: Organize and conduct onboarding and training sessions to explain project workflows, rubrics, quality standards, and Punjabi-specific style and script requirements.
- Quality alignment: Ensure consistent application of Punjabi language guidelines by all trainers and QAs and communicate updates as projects evolve.
- Process improvement: Identify recurring quality gaps, propose workflow enhancements, and contribute to building scalable QA processes for Punjabi-language projects.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Punjabi, Linguistics, Translation, Communications, Journalism, English, Education, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Punjabi with strong reading and writing skills.
- Strong command of English to follow guidelines, communicate effectively, and provide clear feedback.
- Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in Punjabi writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, AI training, education, annotation, or related language-review workflows.
- Deep understanding of Punjabi grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, register, dialect variation, and cultural context.
- Proficiency in Gurmukhi and/or Shahmukhi scripts, with clear indication of which script(s) you can read and write.
- Ability to evaluate Punjabi content against detailed rubrics and identify issues such as mistranslation, unnatural tone, hallucinated claims, ambiguity, or inconsistent terminology.
- Experience leading or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, editors, or QAs is highly preferred.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced remote environments using tools like Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management systems.
- Highly detail-oriented and organized, capable of maintaining style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding materials, honeypots, and other documentation.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
