A fast-growing, product-focused technology company is seeking a senior QA Automation Engineer to enhance its test automation infrastructure and elevate software quality at scale. This fully remote, full-time role operates during U.S. business hours and is ideal for candidates based in LATAM, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, or South Africa. The position focuses on hands-on automation using Playwright and TypeScript, emphasizing end-to-end (E2E) testing, CI/CD integration, and AI-assisted testing workflows. This is not a manual QA role; instead, it requires ownership of building reliable, scalable automation frameworks that improve release confidence and reduce production issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain E2E automated tests primarily using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Expand automation coverage across critical user journeys, product workflows, and regression scenarios.
- Create reusable test utilities, fixtures, testing patterns, and automation components.
- Enhance the automation framework’s maintainability, scalability, reliability, and execution speed.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and eliminate flaky tests by diagnosing issues related to DOM interactions, network requests, asynchronous behavior, timing, synchronization, and test environments.
- Reduce false positives and inconsistent failures to improve regression suite reliability.
- Develop and maintain stable test-data strategies and testing environments.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring reliable execution during deployment workflows.
- Review CI/CD test results, troubleshoot failures, and optimize test execution speed and feedback cycles.
- Collaborate closely with frontend and backend engineers on testability, regression prevention, release readiness, and automation architecture.
- Participate in engineering discussions to identify quality risks and provide clear technical feedback on defects or automation issues.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools to enhance exploratory testing, edge-case identification, test development, and debugging.
- Continuously explore opportunities to increase automation coverage and testing efficiency, adapting to evolving AI-assisted engineering tools.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and hands-on experience with Playwright. Candidates with strong Cypress experience willing to transition to Playwright will also be considered.
- Proven track record of building and maintaining E2E automation frameworks.
- Deep understanding of DOM interaction, network requests, asynchronous application behavior, test synchronization, and flaky-test diagnosis.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to improve automation reliability and regression coverage.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment and collaborating directly with software engineers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience building automation infrastructure from scratch.
- Knowledge of test-data management and environment strategies.
- Background in B2B SaaS testing, including multi-tenant applications, role-based permissions, and complex user workflows.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools and workflows.
- Experience working in Agile or product-led engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of modern software development and release practices.
- High autonomy in a fast-paced product environment with direct collaboration across engineering teams.
- Exposure to cutting-edge AI-assisted testing workflows.
- Fully remote work opportunity with a focus on automation-first engineering rather than manual QA.
This role suits engineers who think like developers first, prefer automation over repetitive manual testing, and take pride in diagnosing test instability rather than rerunning tests. Candidates should be committed to maintaining clean, reusable automation code and capable of working effectively with minimal supervision.
Typical daily activities include reviewing CI/CD test results, troubleshooting flaky tests, expanding automated coverage for new workflows, improving shared test components, and collaborating with engineers to enhance testability. The role also involves continuously improving test performance and experimenting with AI-driven testing innovations to keep software releases fast, reliable, and production-ready.
If you are a QA Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Playwright, TypeScript, E2E testing, and CI/CD who enjoys building scalable and maintainable automation infrastructure, this opportunity offers a chance to contribute significantly to software quality in a dynamic, remote-first environment.
