The Radiation Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Radiation Protection Program (RPP) and associated radiation-safety standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role ensures strict compliance with PHC MSDS, PNRA regulations, relevant laws, and local radiation safety policies. The officer will oversee personal and workplace radiation monitoring, including staff dosimetry, dose report reviews, and follow-up on abnormal readings. Maintaining the availability, calibration, and proper use of radiation monitoring instruments and protective equipment is a key part of this position. The role also involves identifying radiation hazards, reporting deficiencies, and supervising corrective actions to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and continuously monitor the Radiation Protection Program and radiation-safety SOPs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies.
- Ensure adherence to PHC MSDS, PNRA requirements, local laws, and approved radiation safety procedures.
- Conduct personal and workplace radiation monitoring, including managing staff dosimetry, reviewing dose reports, and investigating abnormal readings.
- Oversee the availability, proper use, periodic calibration, and maintenance of radiation monitoring instruments and radiation-protection equipment.
- Monitor the condition and use of protective devices such as lead aprons, thyroid shields, and barriers.
- Identify radiation hazards and deficiencies, report findings to management, and supervise the implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
- Maintain radiation warning signs, controlled and supervised areas, and access controls in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate radiation safety orientation, refresher training, and competency awareness programs for radiation workers, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Implement appropriate radiation protection measures for pregnant radiation workers.
- Maintain and update the radiation emergency plan, and actively participate in radiation emergency drills and exercises.
- Keep detailed records of occupational doses, workplace monitoring, incidents, corrective actions, and radiation safety training.
- Collaborate with Imaging Services leadership, medical physics experts, authorized service providers, and PNRA on radiation safety matters.
- Coordinate and facilitate all PHC and PNRA inspections, including document preparation, interdepartmental coordination, compliance with observations, and follow-up on corrective actions until resolution.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience in radiation safety management within healthcare or related environments.
- In-depth knowledge of radiation protection principles, regulatory requirements (including PNRA), and occupational health and safety standards.
- Strong understanding of radiation monitoring techniques, dosimetry, and radiation emergency procedures.
- Ability to develop and implement radiation safety programs and conduct training sessions.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for maintaining accurate records and managing compliance documentation.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and internal departments.

MS / M. Phil / Ph.D. in Medical Physics (preferably with specialization in Medical/Radiation Physics). Medical Physicist (Radiology) in accordance with PNRA. Hospital/institution-based training or internship in a Radiology Department, with practical exposure to radiology equipment and radiation protection, including X-Ray, CT, Fluoroscopy, Mammography, Cath Lab, C-Arm, and Image Intensifier, will be preferred.
