The R&D Pharmacist is a crucial member of the pharmaceutical research and development team, responsible for designing and improving drug formulations while ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. This role requires expertise in formulation science, process development, and analytical techniques to support the successful creation and scale-up of various pharmaceutical dosage forms. The position involves hands-on work in the lab, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and adherence to industry best practices to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical products.
Key Responsibilities
Formulation & Product Development:
Develop and optimize pharmaceutical dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, liquids, and ointments. Conduct pre-formulation studies including ingredient selection and excipient compatibility. Perform lab-scale trials and assist with pilot-scale production to validate formulation robustness.
Stability & Analytical Testing:
Design and execute stability studies in line with ICH guidelines. Analyze data to determine product shelf life and storage conditions. Work closely with Quality Control on analytical method development and validation.
Process Development & Scale-up:
Support the transition of formulations from laboratory to production scale. Provide detailed documentation and technical guidance during technology transfer to manufacturing teams. Troubleshoot formulation or process issues encountered during development or production.
Documentation & Compliance:
Prepare thorough technical documentation such as development reports, batch manufacturing records (BMR), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and product dossiers. Ensure compliance with GMP, GLP, and regulatory standards. Assist regulatory affairs in compiling CTD/ACTD files for product registration.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs, Production, and Packaging departments. Provide technical support during audits and regulatory inspections to maintain compliance and promote continuous improvement.
Innovation & Product Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance existing formulations or develop cost-effective alternatives. Stay updated on scientific literature, market trends, and emerging pharmaceutical technologies to foster innovation.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Pharm-D or M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, or a related discipline.
Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation and development within an R&D setting.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of pharmaceutical formulations and excipients. Familiarity with GMP, GLP, and ICH guidelines. Proficient in operating laboratory instruments such as HPLC, dissolution testers, and viscometers. Skilled in MS Office and meticulous documentation.
Language:
Proficiency in English and Urdu is essential.
Location and Work Conditions:
This full-time, in-person role is based in Lahore. Candidates must be willing to commute or relocate as needed and demonstrate 100% willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Preferred Education:
A Master’s degree is advantageous.
Preferred Experience and Knowledge:
Experience with novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) is preferred. Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD) and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies is a plus. Familiarity with regulatory requirements from agencies such as FDA, EMA, and WHO is desirable.
Compensation:
The monthly salary ranges from Rs70,000 to Rs120,000.
